Overall I would say "friends in the workplace" do not exist. Most people are out for themselves and even if you do not know it they are talking about you or telling on you.

I have "friends" that I get along well with at work.  But we've never gotten together outside of work.  We probably wouldn't even have anything to talk about.LOL

I have two best friends, one of them i met at work.  We have been best friends for over 10 years, and both our families have become one spending holidays together.

My husband and I own our own business and thus work together every day.  He is my best and only friend at work. 

Everyone else who works for us are work associates only.  Even though my husband and I are very friendly toward our employees, they are not our friends.  Our association with them is very limited.

I did not  go out with the people I worked  with except for  a couple of times. One I took some young women out for a short time one night. I wanted  my son to meet some of them. He lived 400 miles away and didn't know anyone where I worked and he liked to go out once a while and I would go with him. But  felt he needed some one his age to go with. So he  met the 4 young women one night with me. Lo and behold one young  lady caught his eye and 7 months  later they got married. I  hoped  the  2 of them would hit it off. she is still like a daughter even though my  son has been gone  18 years now. And the young man she married 5 years ago is my proxy son. Love him as much as  I loved her.

       I just moved in a 5 months ago to a new apartment and she just gave me a new computer. Now I do not have always go to the library to enter act.
