Caring For Your Teeth
« on: June 05, 2019, 08:31:11 am »
Do you brush at least twice per day, floss, and regularly go to your dentist for check-ups?  I am asking because I am angry that dentistry is not considered as part of our healthcare insurance as they are so important to our overall health.  Teeth and gums can become unhealthy, and once they are, it is so expensive to treat them!

I totally agree with you. It should be part of our healthcare insurance. I just don't understand why it is not. My teeth were damaged by prescription medicines I had to take for health issues. Lost many teeth and replacements implants are so expensive

The reasons health care plans do not wish to cover dental treatments are patients have too many dental problems.
Shame on these insurance companies because oral health is very important.

Yes, I brush, and floss, two to three times per day. Once in the morning when I first wake up after walking the dogs and making breakfast/lunches for everyone. I brush after lunch at work and brush and floss before going to bed. I rarely have times available that fit in with the nine to five schedule that doctors and dentists abide by. I took off January sixth in 2018 after scheduling an appointment six months in advance. I took the time off from work an confirmed the appointment two weeks in advance. When I got to my appointment the office was closed. I called, left a message and did not receive a call back for two weeks. I have not been to the dentist since. My wife and kids are trying a new dentist next week and my name is in the system so I may make an appointment for next month.

Yes, I do brush at least twice per day, floss but I do not go to the dentist regularly.  I go every other year for a cleaning but besides that the only time I will go is if I'm having a issue.

I brush twice a day.  I floss every night.  I visit my dentist every three months for a cleaning.

I do take care of my teeth now.  I didn't use to because I hated going to the dentist because he found something costly wrong every time I went.  I do have dental insurance but it doesn't pay for everything.  I do go every 6 months for cleaning and x-rays.

I usually brush once a day, but on occasion I will brush twice a day and have a water flosser for my teeth. I have had some issues that have prevented me from going regularly at times, but my main issue right now is finances. I have a procedure coming up that is $400 and that is way to expensive right now for me and my family. I don't blame you for being angry about the fact that dentistry isn't covered by insurance like it should be. I heard so much of your health is in your mouth and teeth that it's imperative to see a dentist because it can literally save your life. One of our friends is a retired dental hygienist and told she helped save several lives by examining the patients and seeing they had diseases that they needed help for like cancer.

Expensive indeed!  A root canal is over $2K and insurance doesn't pay for it.

Admittedly I don't brush twice per day but my oral hygiene is pretty good.

I agree with you that dental insurance should be part of health insurance because dental health is so important and it is now so expensive too. My dentist charges about $1750 for a crown these days and more like $3000 for a dental implant once everything is all said and done. It's just outrageous what they get.

If dental was taken care of by health insurance with not such large deductibles and co-payments, many more people would go to the dentist regularly and it would become a more preventative service.

I brush three times a day, once in the morning, then at work after lunch and before I go to bed.  I visit the dentist twice a year for cleaning because that is what my insurance covers.  I agree dental should be part of the health insurance and lucky that I have dental insurance at work because my husband is retired on medicare and would not have dental insurance if I was not working.  When I retire we are planning to use a separate insurance to help cover some of the cost but these types of insurance do not cover everything. Guess something is better than nothing

I go to the dentist for a yearly checkup.  Every 6 months I go for a cleaning.  I brush twice a day and floss once in the evening.  I used to have dental insurance with my husband's company, which was great. No everything is out of my pocket. Root canals, extractions, and implants are insanely expensive.  Take care of your mouth.
