They make food especially for them.  Any raw veggies like carrots or apples are good.  Be careful because they will hide the food and it will rot and then stink.  I mostly fed ours the food from Walmart.  They also use to have some stuff that was more like treats.  Had dried cranberry and stuff like that in it.  As far as feeding fresh veggies or fruit I always stuck to the harder stuff.  Their teeth will grow and get really long if they do not have something to gnaw on and file them down.  I tried to keep some of them wooden colored sticks in their cage.  That was a task because it was a wire cage and the goofballs would throw the sticks out of the cage. lol  That and the cat would reach in and take the sticks.  smh

Here is a link I found when I googled what to feed them....

Petco has this on their site :
https://www.petco.com/content/petco/PetcoStore/en_US/pet-services/resource-center/food-nutrition/guinea-pig-care-diet-and-feeding-tips.html

Then I also found this....

I found this info online:
Aside from regular guinea pig food, you’ll definitely want to supplement your pet’s diet with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables for a little variety. So, what is the best food to feed a guinea pig?

“Variety is important because fruits and veggies all provide different nutrients,” says Dr. Amy Williams, a veterinarian at Alaqua Animal Refuge, a no-kill animal shelter in Northwest Florida that provides care to neglected and abused animals (including guinea pigs). “Daily small amounts of veggies and fruit should be fed, but use a variety of veggies and fruits to ensure proper vitamins and minerals are consumed.”

“Think small! Use veggies and fruits in moderation,” says Dr. Williams. “Rule of thumb: veggies about 3/4 cup per day; fruit about 1/3 cup per day.”
Have a wonderful day!

We used to give our Guinea Pig hard vegetables and alfalfa (I think they are related to Guinee Pigs?). Ours was named Nigel and he was a rock star with an orange, punk rock, mohawk that was completely different from any other color on his body. My son wanted every animal in the book and just wasn't happy with our golden retrievers. He started with fish and graduated to Nigel. My wife does not like any creatures that appear to be rodents, in this situation-Nigel, but he ended up loving her and my daughter the most. He used to sing for them all of the time and shoot poop pellets at my son and I. I eventually gave him to a nice family when my family stopped paying attention to him. It breaks my heart to see any animal not getting love and attention.

My response is 'guinea pig'. Sorry; I apologize but I just couldn't stand it anymore. I think spelling is very important.

Good luck with your new rodent. They are kind of cute. My granddaughter had one for a fleeting moment.

I think you should go to the pet store and let them give you a better idea on what to feed them...

I would still try to give her some fresh veggies if you have them for people.  Just a little.  Nothing like 3/4 a cup - which I saw suggested.  Just a couple little pieces.  And like I said watch because they will bury it and it will stink.  And make their bedding gross.  My hamster was worse for stuff like that though.  It was fun because you could stick stuff through the wire cage and he would sit up and take it in his little hands and then sit and nibble on it.

They need guinea pig pellets and an unlimited amount of fresh timothy hay. It's very important that you give them a vitamin C supplement every day - they make chewable tablets you can just give with their food. Their bodies can't make it and they probably won't get enough from veggies. Veggies are given mostly as a treat and to add a little variety to the pellets and hay.

If you scroll down a bit on this site, there is a chart of different veggies that you can give your pig and how often you should give them.

I've always wanted a guinea pig, but I can never have one. I had to re-home my rabbit, because I'm deathly allergic to hay even with medications.   :'(
