What i almost threw away
« on: February 09, 2020, 02:17:37 pm »
Suffice it to say I am not the most organized person in the world.  I was half heartedly going through some papers and recent mail and almost threw a check away that I didn't know was hidden in the middle of an escrow statement.  I barely saw it.  Lord only knows how much money that I have thrown away or failed to get because I don't check lottery tickets.  Have you ever done anything like this?

Yes, I've done stuff like that a few times! I think it's because I go on auto-pilot or something and I'm not completely paying attention to what I'm doing.  I've thrown away tickets to both the circus and the symphony (thankfully both sets of tickets retrieved in time!). I've also thrown away cash in cards. I accidentally threw my wedding ring away one time when I was pregnant and couldn't wear it (swollen fingers). Once i figured out what I'd done with it, my husband went out to the garbage can, rooted around in it until he found the ring, and then placed it on my finger again! Swoon, swoon!  :in-love: :peace:

Like you, I am not very organized, however, I don't recall throwing away important stuff that I know of.  Who is to say that I haven't thrown out stuff without realizing it.  Hope not.

I think more than I would ever want to know.  I once checked a powerball ticket in one of those machines.  It said check with the cashier.  For what ever reason I didn't.  I to this day don't know if that was a winner.

Once I threw my paycheck away.  It was years ago when we received checks.  I had it on the table with other mail and picked up the junk mail with my check and tossed it in the garbage.  Thankfully I realized it and got it out. Thank God for direct deposit 😁

At least you caught it and found the check. As far as I know I have not thrown away anything important and if I did I still don't know about it.

I remember a similar experience but with a happier ending.  I don't think I've ever thrown away something of value but I do recall finding an envelop in my bureau.  The envelop had some cash; around fifty bucks or so.  I don't remember the exact amount.

Anyway it took a few seconds for me to recall what the cash was for.  I had put it there some time before that.  I knew that it was always a good idea to have a little cash on hand just in case of an emergency.  I had forgotten about it but was thrilled when I did find it.   :silly:

So much for keeping cash readily available.  True, it was in a safe place but didn't even remember that I had it in the first place.

Sorry for your Dad's loss.   :(

I don't know if I've accidentally thrown away any item/money.  I did hear of a couple who bought a couch from a Goodwill store.  After awhile they thought the footfeet pad was too stiff, so they figured they'd take out some padding.  It was CASH.  $40,000 I believe the amount.

The couple returned to the Goodwill store and was able to return the money.
