ACAB!!!
« on: June 01, 2020, 06:41:03 am »
ACAB!  This acronym is going around the internet and at protests!  I detest it!  If you don't know, it stands for "All cops are bad."  Shame on them for painting all cops with this broad brushstroke. It is similar to "One bad apple spoils the whole bunch!"  There are over 800,000 police in this country providing safety and public service. Most are fine men and women doing the best they can in a very highly stressful and dangerous occupation.  One negative from these protests are the people using this acronym.

I hadn't heard that acronym before.  That is just wrong.  Just because of the ignorant act of a few police officers the whole law enforcement profession should not be blamed (Just the ones involved).  You never here of most of the good and brave acts that are done by our law enforcement people.

I actually heard that it meant "all cops are b@st@rds." I have seen many police officers condemn the officers who were present at the George Floyd murder. I just think some people are so hurt by the actions of a few bad police that they are saying such things to draw attention.

Likewise, the same thing can be said about the protesters. One bad "protester" (likely opportunist) shouldn't tarnish the whole movement.

Opinion: 1) a view, judgment, or appraisal formed in the mind about a particular matter 2) belief stronger than impression and less strong than positive knowledge
This is the internet, learn to let people have opinions. And don't be so sensitive.  8)

Seems like I saw that.  I also saw signs encouraging that any and all cops be killed. And from random news stories several have been killed. The ONLY cop(s) that had any thing to do with this are the ones who were there. There are police officers who would do anything they could to help any one they could  I think a lot of them are in hiding right now. I was thinking earlier today I do not think I have seen a cop in my home town in the past 3-4 days.

Labeling all cops as bad because of a few bad cops is just wrong.  There are so many fine loyal, courageous, kind helpful GOOD cops.

No label should be placed on a whole just because of a few.  Labels go both ways.

Example:  You cannot label ALL ________ (fill in the blank) GOOD because a few of the ___________ were good.
You can't say all bananas, or cherries, or cantaloupe, or dogs, or horses, or cars are GOOD as a blanket label.  There is bound to be a bad "apple" in every bunch....whether people or animals or fruit.

Likewise, you cannot label ALL  ________ (fill in the blank) BAD because a few of the ___________ were bad.  In my fruit, animal, car example, there are WAY WAY WAY MORE GOOD than bad in the bunch.

As far as people, I tend to believe the majority of people are good.

The officers involved in George Floyd's death (murder in my opinion) were BAD cops.  All of them are guilty of Mr. Floyd's death in my opinion.  Any one of them could have intervened and stopped the officer with his knee on Mr. Floyd's neck.  T

I've seen a lot of pictures of policemen and women joining in the protest marches. They are protesting police departments that have these out-of-control cops in them and are doing nothing about it until it is too late. Really makes me sad and mad that one rogue cop outright killed a man and his department kind of tried to cover it up, etc. At the same time, I think the peaceful protests are being hijacked by people just wanting to cause trouble and loot, kill, etc. I even saw a picture showing some protesters protecting a storefront from the looters that had infiltrated their midst. People have got to be able to peacefully protest in this country (that's the kind of freedom that makes our country great!). I just don't know how to stop the people with ill intent who spoil it for everybody.  :peace: :peace: :peace: :peace: :peace: :peace: :peace:

I have several family members in law enforcement and They are great, would do anything for anyone.  They run into the trouble when others run away.    You cannot condemn them all for a few bad apples in anything.

Not all cops are bad but we need the good ones to stand up and do the right thing against the bad cops.  They turn a blind eye and don't do enough just like those three cops that stood around and let that cop kill George Floyd.  He died because they let their "brother" kill that man when they didn't have to.

I believe there are "forces" behind these protests which have their own agenda, and that agenda is to turn people's attention from what the focus of the protest is to people condemning the destruction and lawlessness.  It is important that these lawless elements be taken care of and that people who want to advance what the real purpose is be allowed to say and assemble as they wish.

Haven't heard the acronym, but agree that it's important to support our local community but also cops now

I don't like this term either. There are many fine, honorable officers who take their job of protecting the community seriously. It was a beautiful site seeing officers taking a knee and praying, officers marching with protesters in solidarity.

However, especially after yesterday, I feel as if we are on the edge of a precipice. In years past, I've seen soldiers on the streets and in airports--especially after 911. Back then, it gave me a feeling of safety that they were watching over us. Now, when I see soldiers, whether national guard or military police, shooting tear gas and rubber bullets (and some say real bullets--though I can't verify this claim) into crowds of peaceful protesters who are NOT looting or vandalizing anything, it sends chills down my spine.

The day that it becomes the norm that the military is the policing force of our streets, our towns, and our cities is the day that we are no longer America. That's the day that we become like any other war-torn, third-world country under a military regime. It's time to be very wary and watchful. Because after it happens it will be too late.

I'm not a person who falls victim to conspiracy theories. I have always researched and vetted information to make sure it's factual.  I don't fall for chain mail warnings of imminent doom. That said, I've lived long enough to have seen people protesting peacefully being left alone. And waves of armed soldiers keeping the peace during desegregation who had to, at the time, be forceful with those who weren't peaceful. But this is different. Instead of soldiers keeping the peace in times of terror, they're being asked to do something that goes against their oath. Their being asked to fire into crowds of people--men, women, students, children.

Our representatives are our voices in the government. They represent us. It's time to be watchful and to call out anything that doesn't seem right (especially with regard to the military patrolling our streets) and to let our representatives know how we feel. We have the power of our vote and they need to listen to their constituents or we'll vote them out of office. It's our job to keep them accountable. Because if we do nothing, what happens to us will be no one else's fault but our own.

God bless America. I pray that she remains free. May we all be safe. Thank you for reading.

kuponsaver2011- That day is now. There is an agenda behind this. But most don't want to believe it. The world we knew, the country we lived in just 6 months ago is gone.

This is terrible and not true.  I feel there are many more good cops than bad cops.  Sometimes free speech just goes to far and is not helpful but hurtful.

There many good cops. In California where I live a Police Chief would meet & do coffee once a month! If you had concerns he would answer them! Nice guy!

I did too.I had a cousin who died trying to handcuff someone who resisted. White on white. Because of his resistance for what could've been a minor crime (not the first time either) and 90 days in jail, he wound up being charged with involuntary mansalughter and a 15-year sentence.

I heard that the other 3 cops were only in training with the one that killed Floyd. So, I'm wondering if that's why they didn't stop Chauvin (he was their in field trainer).  If that's the case, what do you do then? This cop should have been fired long ago and his name added to the database of bad apples but because o fthe union, he was never able to be fired.
