And in other 'Non-News"...
« on: September 09, 2020, 03:09:34 pm »
A thirteen year old, autistic white boy was shot by police in Salt Lake City, Utah after his mother called 911 seeking help for her son who was having a mental break down. Related non-news: there have been no riots. Additional non-news: The national guard has not been called in. Even more 'non-news': No calls to defund the police were issued. No comments have been issued from the Biden political tour or White House representives as to whether a visit will be made by politicians capitalizing on news events.  The boy's mother questioned why non-lethal, less aggressive, alternate tools were not used, especially given that the nature of the call was provided as a mental health crisis. Police body cam footage will be released ten business days after the incident. An online fund raising page has been created to help the boy with injuries to his ankles, shoulder, intestines and bladder.

I do like that the national news broadcasts are trying to end with a good news story.  The rest of the news is so ugly, it helps lift our spirits.

I saw that on the news.  What’s going on in this country?  We never had things like this happen and now it seems like it’s happening every day someplace.  So sad.

It doesn't fit the narrative so it will quickly fade away from the news cycle, if it even hits it... a non-poc doesn't matter apparently.

I agree with the mother, why would using lethal force be necessary, perhaps this is a good example why social workers would be a better choice to be called if it was a child having a mental health crisis.

You rarely heard about police shootings before, especially black shootings. The media decided police shootings are making big news and lots of clicks (where the $$ come from), so they are purposely reporting every shooting to keep the interest going. Police shootings are really rare compared to regular homicides. Do you hear a lot about black-on-black shootings? Not lately. Media is loving the riots. It's news. Wait until more reporters are assaulted (beaten) like the one was last night. Did you hear about that one? No? That's because the media doesn't care about that one.

I love when David Muir ends with a happy story.

As a former police officer and several members of my family on police and sheriff departments a lot of the things we are seeing and hearing about is poor training.  Training needs to be on-going with new equipment and procedures taught.  The 2 officers who shot each other in an alley, what were they shooting at if they could not see that it was each other.  They also have a plethora of things that they can do before the use of lethal means.  It is really sad to see, because so many of the officers and first responders are great and really do want to help.
