Note the wrapped home behind the burnout property, this is a great read and information about the historical properties saved by this method is invaluable.

The contractor had enough time to do some quick research and decided to wrap his mountain home with an aluminum protective covering. The material that can withstand intensive heat for short periods resembles tin foil from the kitchen drawer but is modeled after the tent-like shelters that wildland firefighters use as a last resort to protect themselves when trapped by flames.

Diky, who lives most of the time in the San Francisco Bay Area, bought $6,000 worth of wrapping from Firezat Inc. in San Diego, enough to cover his 1,400-square-foot (130-square-meter) second home on the edge of the small California community of Meyers.

Interesting article - it seems they are doing the same for the sequioa trees in the national forest to try and save them from the wild fires

Wow, how interesting. We were just on vacation in Oregon and saw the remnants of the fires out there. It was so sad to see so many trees burned and the clean up going on. There was so much smoke lingering in the mountains out there.  :(

I got the impression that it works.  Why doesn't the insurance companies pay for it?  Lots cheaper than replacing an entire home, and many homes at that!
