Do you use Self Serve or Full Serve Gas stations?

 ???
I always choose the self serve, do you?  It's always cheaper and most stations here don't even have a Full Serve any more!!

Today is one of those days that I am grateful that I live in New Jersey.  The temperature is hovering around 10 degrees and the wind chill makes it feel below freezing...and I don't have to get out of my car to pump my own gas.

I love the fact that it is illegal to pump your own gas in New Jersey, but why is this a law?  Here are a few interesting facts about this law, according to MentalFloss.com:

New Jersey is the only state where you can't pump your own gas.  Up until 2016, you couldn't pump your own gas in Oregon either.  Now, there are still parts of that state where you can't pump your gas, but it is not a statewide ban.
The actual law that makes it illegal to pump your own gas in NJ is called the Retail Gasoline Dispensing Safety Act and Regulations and it became law in 1949.  The act says "Because of the fire hazards directly associated with dispensing fuel, it is in the public interest that gasoline station operators have the control needed over that activity to ensure compliance with appropriate safety procedures, including turning off vehicle engines and refraining from smoking while fuel is dispensed."
Although the act claims that safety is the primary reason for it's existence, many people believe that money was the actual reason.  In the 1940's, a gas station owner decided to charge people less if they pumped their own gas.  The owner's competitors were worried that this practice would take away business, so they pushed lawmakers to pass a law to make "self service" illegal.  Ironically, gas prices in New Jersey are usually less expensive than the prices in neighboring states.  That's a "win-win" for those of us in the Garden State.

And newest development:

NEW JERSEY - Dozens of New Jersey gas stations are dropping gas prices on Friday in a stunt to show support for self-service gas stations.  Under current New Jersey law, a driver is not allowed to pump their own fuel.

Some gas station owners claim that they could drop gas prices if they didn't have to have workers pumping all the gasoline.

It is illegal to pump your own gas in Oregon and has been for the over 50 years I have lived here, but I don't believe it effects pricing since competition keeps Oregon and Washington on a level playing field.

I don't think there are very many full service gas stations, if any, near where I live. But I prefer to pump my own anyway. it really was weird in Oregon when we were vacationing there last year to not be able to pump my own gas.

We don't have a lot of full service gas stations in my area.  I have been pumping my own gas for a long time.  I follow a youtuber who lives in New Jersey and she had said that in New Jersey you can't pump your own gas.

Last year they tried to pass the privelege to pump your own gas in Oregon and it went down like a lead balloon and that was not the first time.

We don't have full service gas stations where I live.  The only time I've been to one is when I was driving in NJ. It makes no sense to me to have them.  Sure you're giving someone a job but in the near future gas stations will be a thing of the past.

I prefer the self pump.  I also try to get cash before hand because they charge you 10 cents a gallon less.  I also use the grocery rewards on gas, so I have at times gotten up to $1 off per gallon.

I use self serve. I don't think that they have full service no more, do they?

I live in Utah so basically self serve is your only option. Which is fine by me, it's not that hard to pump your own gas if you are taught how to do it early enough. Like one of the first things my parents taught me when I started driver's ed a long time ago.

I'm in Ohio and I don't think I have seen a full serve gas station in operation since I was a small tot in the 70's - maybe one that carried forward into the 80's and 90's... That is also the only place I ever remember seeing one of the belt mounted change machines ever in actual use.

Self-Serve for me.  Don't have time to wait for full service.
