Has anyone ever paid for ad space for their referral link?
« on: November 22, 2009, 01:57:09 am »
I'm considering buying some banner ad space on a popular webcomic that I visit every day.  For $30 I can get 50,000 banner views.  If only 10 of them actually register, confirm their e-mail account, and do one offer, I'll break even.  That's only 0.02% of the people that see the banner.

Anyways, has anyone here ever bought ad space somewhere to get referrals and gotten any success?

I would start out with a smaller amount, like $10. If you break even from that, I'd continue.

Try it out if you want.  :icon_rr:

My problem with word-of-mouth referrals is that all my friends are too skeptical about stuff like this.  While they don't see it as a scam per se, they certainly see it as a way for a large number of spammers to get your e-mail address (Hence why I created an e-mail account just for FC).

They would also find FC's claim of earning "hundreds in hours" to be very misleading (Which it is).  Really, if you're sticking to the Free/No CC offers, you can't really make much more than $5/hr without referrals.

I've never bought ad space and don't plan on it, if word of mouth isn't working, try showing them your account page that shows them that you've been credited for things, maybe show them people's signatures on the forum, there are plenty that show people have received hundreds of dollars. I've gotten referrals just by saying "Really what do you have to lose? it costs nothing and you can leave if you don't like it" and as you've said they can create and email account especially for this. It seems to work for me.

I have bought ad space and it paid off in the long run. Just the other day I made $30 just in cashout bonuses from my hundreds of referrals. The more you have, the more often they cashout, it's a numbers game and the numbers need to be big. I should add, I would NEVER pay $30 for banner ads.

The site I was going to advertise on also runs ads from Project Wonderful, which is an interesting site that handles advertising.  Basically, you make a bid on how much money you're willing to spend to have your ad shown for a full day.  Whoever is the highest bidder gets their ad shown.  Once someone becomes the new highest bidder, their ad is immediately shown.  However, you're only charged for the time your ad is actually shown, accurate to the nearest second.

For example, let's say I bid $5/day and want to show my ad for 2 days total, and I put the ad up at noon.  At midnight that day, someone puts in a bid for $10/day, but for one day.  From that time until midnight the next day, their ad gets shown instead of mine.  After that, my ad goes back up and continues for another day and a half.

Its great because everybody wins.  The person running the website can let advertisers decide how much they want to pay, and it goes to the highest bidder.  During times when advertising becomes rampant, like during Christmas, advertisers are willing to pay more to ensure that their ad gets shown, so the website owner makes a lot of money.

It doesn't matter what kind of scheme they come up with, you need to track everything and do the math. If you spend $5 to run your ad for two days, it better pull in at least 4 referrals that validate their email address and earn you a buck. You can probably make the last buck along with a small profit from the rest. What I would do instead is set up a capture page and advertise that with a lead in to Fusioncash. I haven't always felt that way, but I found a new tool that makes a list provide much higher odds by including better followup.

No I haven't.  I don't know that I would consider it.

A lead-in to FusionCash?  Are you talking about just having a page that I write that describes FusionCash and how it works, with the referral link on that page?

I certainly wouldn't use FusionCash's banners that they provide.  Having "FREE MONEY" plastered on it is the best way to scare people away, because anyone with half a brain knows that there's no such thing as free money.  Instead, I would design a similar banner advertising getting paid for doing surveys.  Also, I DEFINITELY wouldn't claim "Earn hundreds in hours!" as the only way to pull that off would be to do every offer that requires a CC.  And again, the "Too good to be true" alarm goes off inside anyone who sees the banner.

Of course you can use what you like as long as it doesn't violate the rules, but the banner below is the same one I used on my own page to get 500 referrals, so go figure???

I'll try several different methods to get referrals, and this one has crossed my mind a couple times. Good to see everyone's experiences in ads.

It seems as though there are enough free places to advertise that it would be silly to spend 30 dollars, though I could understand 5 if there were proven results.

That's why I have 500 of them and most people don't have 5.
