Off-Topic / Friends
« on: February 25, 2011, 04:55:14 am »Message ID: 318040
Something that was posted via Facebook:

Its been said that everlasting friends can go long periods of time without speaking and never question the friendship. These types of friends pick up like they just spoke yesterday, regardless of how long it has been or how far away they live, and they don't hold grudges. They understand that life is busy, but you will ALWAYS love them.   :)

"We shall not cease from exploration.
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time."
~T.S. Eliot

Think about it for a moment, what does this mean to you?

Off-Topic / Do you dream in B & W or in color?
« on: January 31, 2011, 03:48:24 pm »Message ID: 306919
I'm just curious because my dreams are always vivid and in color.  I know some people who their dreams are always in Black & White.  Some people say they never have dreams!  My whether I remember them or not are always in full-fledged colors.

Off-Topic / Another goal - related quote...
« on: January 23, 2011, 04:01:25 pm »Message ID: 303009
"By writing out your goals, they become embedded on your subconscious mind and crystallized in your consciousness… Never lose sight of your goals. Never let the business of the everyday allow you to forget about your life goals. By thinking about them constantly and acting on them daily, you will steadily create the brilliant life you know in your heart you deserve."

This quote I came across in my Business Mastery reading assignment homework in reference to building goals:
"If you have built castles in the air, your work needs not be lost.  There is where they should be.  Now put foundations under them."

Off-Topic / The Benefits of Video Games on Children and Teens
« on: January 08, 2011, 07:38:33 pm »Message ID: 296516
My son participates in the Noogieland support group for kids at Gilda's Club.  Research was done at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School.  The book Grand Theft Childhood is based on this research.  The book was written by Cheryl Olson and Lawrence Kutner who are co-founders and directors of the Harvard Medical School's Center for Mental Health & Media.  There are many interesting findings from this research but the following findings are the most interesting:
  • Games may encourage and provide an outlet for creativity
  • Games may help kids manage difficult emotions (coping with stress, anger)
  • Games allow kids to try on roles and behaviors in a safe environment

2/3 of the boys surveyed as well as 1/2 of the girls surveyed played video games because
          it helps them relax.
Many also played to forget about their problems.
Close to 1/2 of all boys surveyed and nearly 1/3 of all girls surveyed played to get their anger out.

  • Provide a focus for socializing--especially for boys
  • Games may promote involvement in sports or science

Off-Topic / Why I like this quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson
« on: December 12, 2010, 03:09:23 pm »Message ID: 284554
And here's the quote:

"He who is not everyday conquering some fear has not learned the secret of life."  Ralph Waldo Emerson

Why I like this quote because it serves as a reminder for some of my fears that I conquered such as my diagnosis of breast cancer, followed by severe depression, losing my job, losing some "AWESOME" family members, being in debt, and losing my medical insurance.

And what have I learned:

Life goes on!
There is life after breast cancer!
There is life after being terminated!
There is nothing wrong with being depressed and with the right help and support you can overcome it!
One door closes, another door opens!
Help is always available, you just need to know where to go, where to look, and not be afraid to ask for it!

Off-Topic / Does bacon have some nutritional value?
« on: December 12, 2010, 02:20:58 pm »Message ID: 284540
Yeah, it does, believe it or not!  First, bacon is an excellent source of protein, with three grams for every slice and bacon does have small amounts of several essential nutrients.  Bacon contains Niacin which is necessary for proper circulation and nervous system function.  Bacon also contains Vitamin B12 which is needed for the well-being of the nervous system.  It also contains Thiamin which helps with blood circulation, metabolism, and digestion.  Bacon also contains Selenium, Iron, and Phosphorus.

To make bacon part of healthy diet try consuming it without the fried eggs and toasted white bread smothered with butter.  Turkey bacon can equally supply the taste and nutrition of bacon.

This tip was sent to me via e-mail by Margaret Ann (Reiki Master)

If you are worried about something you cannot control, allow
yourself 10 min each day to worry at it - then put it out of your
mind.
