my kids (ages 9 years and 21 months) do not drink any coke at all! my son only has soda when we go out to eat at a restaurant or family/friends house, but even then its ususally sprite or orange soda. and my daughter does not get any soda at all! my kids are always drinking water, and drink milk with most of their meals, and have 100% fruit juice about once a day.

Wow. I can't imagine how crappy my childhood would have been had my parents been prudish enough to not allow me and my brothers some caffeinated soda now and then. That's just...cruel. Do you also keep them from hamburgers, or pizza? Nine is young, I realize, but at what age do you let him off the leading strings?

When Nate was little, around 5 or 6, he liked root beer. That was cool because it didn't have caffeine. I don't remember the exact age he started drinking Pepsi or Dr. Pepper. Now he can have one a day, mainly because pop is expensive. neither of us drink Mountain Dew because of the damage it can cause your teeth.

Google "Mountain Dew Mouth" it's gross.

We try for not more than one a day.  It's hard when you are out and don't plan ahead.....I HATE to pay for water.

my son is 2 1/2 years old.  he likes to sip mommy's diet coke once and a while, but not routinely.  If i drink my diet coke I often put it in a different cup so he isn't as inclined to know what I am drinking.

Our son also loves milk, water and a small amount of 100% fruit juice daily.

Soda is poison. I rarely drink it myself, so I'd rarely let my kids drink it if I had any. I like tea and juice and milk more than soda, myself, so I don't see why they would need it so much. Once in a while is okay, but seriously.

Ha, It would be nice if he would listen to me, I don't think he knows what anything else to drink is. I buy juice, milk, but then he likes them energy drinks. :peace:

I wish more restaurants would give more options for beverages other that soft drinks and overly sweetened fruit punch. As a child I was only allowed soft drinks at birthday parties or family gatherings and holidays. I hope more parents limit their children's intake of caffeine and sugar to help set their path to a healthier lifestyle.

I only have niece baby sitting experience but I guess my brother let his daughter drink too much soda to the point where the doctor told them she had to stop because it was messing up her teeth. So when I do have kids I probably won't allow too much. She's extremely addicted to soda, if she sees you with some she'll cry till you give her some. Hopefully she'll grow out of it.

Drinking soda is very limited in my family (I am a Pepsi addict).  The sodas that they do drink are clear non caffeine, such as sprite or 7 up.  Dark sodas can contribute to Osteoporosis (weakening of bones).  This condition mostly affects women (80%).

No, I give them sprite if they did not have sweets early in the day.

If they did, I give them water with meals,    Milk for Breakfast...
