Using virtual phone number
« on: August 30, 2010, 01:35:17 pm »
I think this question has been asked before, but I tried searching for it and couldn't find an answer. I was wondering if it is OK to use a virtual phone number, like from k7, to do the Yes/no type freebie offers. My only phone is a cell phone, and even though I don't put it under cell phone, but under home phone, they send me text messages, which I have to pay for, since I don't have a data plan.

You can use the k7 number for anything that wants a phone number but if its for some type of text then no.

I think i will have to start using my k7 number. Even though I text stop to the spammers, they still send me text messages. I would block all text messaging, but occasionally that is the only way I can get in touch with my sisters.

Oh my goodness. I have had several $10 monthly charges from those kind of offers that I unknowingly submitted my cell phone number for some type of subscription. I just stopped completing offers like that because it was getting ridiculous. I was texting STOP several times a day. I don't even remember typing my phone number in that many times!

I have been using k7 for the past year with no problems.  Other than on the offers that want a cell number then I just skip those because we had to block text on our phone due to spammers from before I even started FC.

Would you be so kind to explain to those of us who don't know....how exactly does k7 work?? :notworthy:

Its more or less just an online answering machine without having to give out your home number.  You sign up for free and they give you a phone number to use as you like.  All calls to that number go to this virtual answering service online.  You can check your messages by logging in on their website.

I have never used the k7 number everyone is talking about, but I do know google voice has a phone number thing now to that you can give out and it transfers to your cell phone and has a voicemail, and you can turn it on and off of actually forwarding to your cell phone. I haven't used it for the purpose of offers yet, but it seems a pretty cool concept either way. Just a thought.

Thank you very much...I'm going to have to sign up for it. Ever since I joined FC I've started getting a few unwanted calls. :)

The only problem with k7 is it's a fixed area code and some offers require it to be in your state. I got a Magic Jack instead and it solves that problem. My number has my local area code. It does cost me $20 a year, but I make a lot more than that online and I have another phone.

The only calls I've had were when I signed up for the car insurance quotes.  They called once, gave me info or wrote a letter, and never bothered me again.   ;D ;D
