I think there's a lot more here than an internet forum can help you with. Not to say you shouldn't come here to talk, but there probably needs to be some sort of external help going on as well. Have the two of you gone for marriage counseling? If not, it sounds like it's time. A really good book is 'The Divorce Remedy' by Michelle Weiner Davis. You can usually get used copies very cheap at Amazon, or get it at the library. She also has a good website at divorcebusting.com

She obviously wasn't always putting you down, otherwise you would have never married her. I think you need to do some work to start figuring out when this started, and what was the beginning factor of it.  It's just hard for strangers on an internet forum to really help you.

Maybe you guys are going through a phase.  Phases can last a while sometimes, just do your best to make the situation better and hope it passes.

willie, so sorry to hear of your marital trouble.  i know how frustrating that can be and how futile it must seem to you.  i lived with similar treatment from my former husband but was committed to our marriage until he had an affair with a family member.  but i still have plenty to live for and so do you.  your son for starters.  parents, friends, your job, and, yes, even your unhappy wife.  and don't forget yourself--you matter too, you know.  but most of all for God, your Father, and Jesus Christ, your savior.  you are an infinitely valuable human being, and God clearly isn't done with you here yet, or you wouldn't still be here.  and, you know, prayer sure can't hurt.  i wish you both the best.

this is a long subject discussion but to sum it up if you treat her like a queen you will turn into a king, hard to do in the beginning but well worth it in the end
