How much do you tip?
« on: October 08, 2011, 01:41:43 pm »
When you have food delivered to your house, and say it comes up to 40.00, how much of a tip do you give?  :dontknow:

If it's a pizza company, they always tack on a delivery charge anyway. They are about 2 miles from my house and charge me a $4 delivery fee. However, I always tip the driver $3-$5 depending on the bill. It never gets higher than $25. You need to check and see if they are charging you a delivery charge. Some drivers get a percentage of the delivery charge for gas and stuff for using their own car.

I always try to tip over as people in those jobs usually get minimum wage and depend on their tips. I did (many years ago). Especially those who are using their own transportation to deliver. Some people in customer service jobs who work the hardest usually get tipped the least. Like hotel maids.

Good question, I am really getting tired of people saying you need to tip no matter what, if it is not good service I think you dont need to tip, but if they do a good job then you should tip 10 to 15%, then if they do a great job 20%. For pizza delivery if they are taking for ever or dont bring the right food or all the food then they dont get much of a tip, but if they get it to you in a reasonable amount of time, I would give a $5 tip for $40 of food.

for a delivery of $40, i'd probably tip $5 - $8
depending on the speed and friendliness.

my MIL has worked in the restaurant business
her entire life, so i've learned what a tip means!
how generous the tip i leave, depends on how
well-deserved i think it is.

i never go into any restaurant on a saturday
night thinking i'm going to be the top priority.
just give a good attitude and you'll (hopefully)
get one back!  ;D
[ we all have a place in history. mine is in the clouds. ]

I never order delivery at home and never have ordered that amount of food but on extremely rare occasion I will order delivery from a hotel then I'd only tip about $3.  Yeah I'm one of those cheap bastards that hates to tip just because.   I prefer to tip only for service above and beyond which is truly rare.  I hate the thought of tipping for doing the minimum for your job or because it's expected.

We don't have dilvery where I am at but when I go out I try to leave 25% if its an all you can eat bar like Ryans I try to leave $1 per person but if they really good I will leave an extra buck or two.  I use to be a waitress so I know how hard it is but I also know that those places where yout serve yourself those waitress I believe get minum wage but where full service waitress work they get less than minum wage so I try to give more if I can.

That's hard, because some places have a delivery charge and some dont.

I used to get around $1-$2 regardless of the order amount when I delivered pizzas.

I consider myself a "big tipper".  I normally give 20% because I know how hard servers work. However, last night we went to Applebee's and we had a horrible server.  My tip to her was a note on the receipt to "not forget about us".  LOL     I know some people may think that it's wrong to just write a note, but it took us 45 minutes to get our food which was not easy dealing with an 18 month old who does not want to sit and an impatient 8 year old who kept saying..."why is everyone else getting their food and we are not".  People were coming and going around us while we were still waiting for our food.   :-[

I ususally give 20%.  If the service is really good, then I may give more.  If the service sucks then they get a little less.  If you have ever worked in that line of work, you would be more open to giving a better tip.  Very hard work, and it is the waiter or waitress that gets all the crap if the cook doesn't do his job right.

Yes, we had to eat quickly because by that time my 18 month old was tired of sitting and very cranky and my 8 year old wanted to leave too.  =)
