Do you hear planes or trains from inside your home?
« on: April 23, 2012, 08:53:47 am »
I live 10-15 miles southeast of a major airport.  My house is pretty well insulated so I don't hear cars going by or most noises.  Once in a great while the flight pattern must change and I will hear a series of planes going overhead.  Most of the time they are too high for me to hear them.  Occasionally one is low enough I feel I can wave at them.

On the other hand, I have no idea where there are train tracks.  I have gone quite a ways in all four directions.  Sometimes, if I am awake in the middle of the night, I can hear a train whistling.  It drives me nuts as I have no idea where it is coming from.

I do I live by an area where a freight train runs through at night. I usually sleep right through it though.

I live about 3 miles from the airport and about 4 blocks from the nearest train tracks.  So,  yes.

:dog:We live 6 houses from a railroad track. Here em all the time....AND get stopped by em too. One of the most comforting sounds to me is hearing them going by while it's raining outside...it makes me sleep well too.

I've lived with train tracks in my back yard. It's a wonder I can even wake up to an alarm clock because of that. Glad we moved though. And my grandmother lived right across the field from an airport. That was the worst - though they replaced all her windows in her house every so many years since the vibrations from the sound of the planes so close loosened them all up.

Yes I do. We are also about 15 miles away. Most times it does not bother us but once in awhile they come close. :)

I hear everything where I live. I hear planes, trains, automobiles, fire engines, police cars and ambulances. It is like living outside. Even when my windows are closed I could still hear that noise. But then again, I live in the city.

I grew up with nearby train tracks and an airport, so I got so used to both that I didn't even notice sometimes.  Tho some airplanes you couldn't help but notice.
Now I live way out in the country with not much noise.  But there is a small private airport nearby and they drive me batty!.  They come down so close I duck in my home sometimes .... its so loud.  I also am one of few people who can say I almost had a crash with small yellow plane as he was coming in and he passed the road i was driving on.  10 seconds different we would have hit!  They scare me.   :o

I only hear planes when they are flying very low, but usually we don't hear them much. I don't think I would mind in the daytime but I don't think I could manage it at night. It must be very hard on people who have to go through that. :peace:

Once and a while a plane flies over...it sounds like something is going to bomb our house!  Occasionally we hear the whistle of a train far off....mostly just car traffic behind us.

Yes,  I can hear planes.  Apparently I am on the landing pattern from a smaller airport.  I have been on my deck on a sunny day and had a shadow go over me because the plane was so low
