Why have companies stopped hiring entry level accountants, engineers,..etc. ?

I do know the economy is pretty bad, but I have heard it's going to get better next August. I guess we will see  :dontknow:.
Why do you think companies mostly want entry level people in the Sales department? What happened to the rest of the occupations, positions that we study for? Just something to think about.
