Purely political and a deliberate circumvention of Congress and the duties of the government.  While I absolutely agree that illegals who served in our military should be immediately granted citizenship, this does not do that and merely grants a work permit.  This is almost the exact thing that Rubio had already in the works and this is simply an attempt by Obama to gain votes.  Considering that less than one year ago he stated in an interview that he couldn't do this because he didn't have the authority reveals quite a bit to those that pay attention to such things.  Don't forget that when he had a democratically controlled senate and house that he didn't care about this issue at all and it is only an issue because he is anticipating Republican resistance (and considering that Obama is neglecting the duties of the Executive Branch and circumventing the Authority of Congress there should be resistance).
There are only 10 types of people in the world:  those who understand binary, and those who don't.

I agree with you guys on getting the votes. But he is also losing a lot of votes from those that are here legal. Some of my neighbors came in legally and now will not vote for him again. Some consider it a slap in the face for doing it right.

My question is - if the government is pushing this topic and coverage on it, what is "behind the curtain" that they are trying to distract us from?

Maybe they are trying to keep the eyes off the real deal that can destroy them all "fast and furious". This really gets my goat -  I was around for "Watergate" and this is multiple times worse than that. Breakin of an office building by government officials or a Government Department and the Justice Department at that, Running an illegal gun running sting into another Country (Mexico) where a Boarder Patrol Agent gets killed. You tell me which is worse!!

Agree with you totally, Abrupt! He is not only doing it to get votes..He is literally increasing his own voting base! If there were immigrants on the fence about him, his hope is that this will sway them, especially if they have family in the eligible category. This is the first step folks! Left unbridled, he will eventually begin to push for granting citizenship to illegals, who then will be able to vote...talk about padding your own voting base! This is a man who right now is running scared and doing whatever he can to make people love him. If you remember in February 2009 President Obama told Today Show host Matt Lauer that if he couldn't fix the economy in 3 years he would be a one term President. Now think about that statement for a minute.... The sheer arrogance of it. Who would make that statement and risk looking like a fool 3 years out, if they were not 99.9% sure they could pull it off. Funny how 3 years later his own words come back to haunt him.

Abrupt... Ya took the fox news bait again!
Fox's version of this interview you site cuts Obama off one sentence before his explanation. He acted well within his powerand the constitution. This motion already passed in the senate 55-41

Yes, all politics. he just wants all mexicanos votes. He thinks he will pass the test just for allowing them to stay "2 years" is what I heard. and what happens after that?  Once he gets his votes from all those grateful relatives, they will dump those people back to their country.

I am so sick and tired of this nonsense of trying to make President Obama into anything but a man. He is not God Almighty! He cannot make all your problems go away. He cannot be made the scapegoat for all of the years we allowed government and corporate america to run amuck. I hate it when I hear people making negative comments and disrespecting his every move and you know it has absolutely nothing to do with immigration. He is the president of OUR country! The problem is that we as voters need to do more than complain to each other about immigration. Let's face it we cannot afford our immigration policy. We let in too many people who have nothing and it's hurting us. Newsflash!!! Other countries do not let people with no assets come and stay in their countries. Germany for one and closer to home you have to have at least 12000 dollars if you are planning on setting up in Canada. We have 12 million illegal aliens in America, legally they are all criminals. They should be booked and expelled as criminals. They have no legal right to be here. I love my country but, we do not have unlimited resources to take care of every person who wants to come here. We must have limits! When I saw people in my city demonstrating against an immigration policy that would have sent illegal aliens back to their home countries, I thought the world had gone crazy. If I break in your house when you're on vacation that doesn't make it mine. We have to be law abiding or they throw us in jail. They get to break the law! These are the issues that fry my cookies! :BangHead:

I don't see the point of bringing up this as a ploy to win votes. What politician do you know of that doesn't do that? Forget politician, what human being do you know that wouldn't do something that they know could benefit them in someway? He is, however, not jumping on something he doesn't genuinely support. He campaigned on things like this. So the timing is political... so what? That's how the game goes. Show me a politician who doesn't do this then I'll care.

lorettahknox, I agree with you about how people react to President Obama, but disagree with the rest. Yes, arriving in this country illegally is a crime but it's not the same as crimes committed by people who prey on others as you seem to be defining it. These people come here to take care of themselves and their families because they can't do it in their country. They work for crumbs and do a lot of jobs that we just wouldn't do (we say we'd do it it but that's only because our bluff is probably not going to be called). You have politicians screaming about tougher immigration policy and strengthening our borders in public, while having an illegal as a worker in their homes. Bottom line, they keep a lot of people in business for cheap, so sending them all home is just not realistic. The bottom will drop out of some industries.

I'm not saying we should have an open border policy. We should strengthen our borders and have tougher policy (cracking down on businesses hiring illegals mainly... no work, no reason to come over) but for the many that are here and have been here for a long time, we have to be realistic and kids shouldn't have to pay for their parents choices.

The timing on this decision leave something of a question in my mind.  Aside from that, I do feel those young people who weren't responsible for coming into the country and who honor our flag should not be punished by being deported.  My first response was GREAT!  but I do feel it is just a band-aid.  AND I do feel the immigration situation needs to be addressed - SOON
