Section 8 sucks
« on: July 13, 2012, 08:40:26 pm »
I'm on this, and they help pay the rent. If I were to get a job, we would have to pay more rent, so all my money would goto that. So I figure why get a job at all. Then if they don't fix the lead based paint situation in our house, we will have to move, or pay full rent here. And if we choose to move, we will still have to pay full rent here, until we can find a new place and IDK how we are going to aford to save for deposits and such. This is getting old. I may just get a full time job for awhile, to keep us afloat. What do you think I should do?

So I figure why get a job at all.

Seriously? Because you are leeching off the government...because it isn't true that all of your money would go straight to rent...to contribute to society...to have enough money to have an actual life.

I think you should STFU and stop complaining about how the government (correction, us tax payers with a job) is paying to support you to sit around and do nothing except complain.  How dare you get on here and say it sucks when you pay $10 month in rent.  Cry me a damn river.  Who are you that you can't get out here and work and pay your own way like the rest of us?  I don't live on hand outs I get out here and do what I have to do to take care of myself.  You have some nerve to complain.  Go out and try to get educated so you can do better instead of relying on other people to take care of you.

Wow!  How can you complain when you are actually getting help. It's like biting the hand that feeds you.  :BangHead: If you don't like it just get out of there and live a normal life WORKING and getting paid.

I know this girl who has no papers, if she can pay her own rent buy selling plates of food, so can you. Learn how to cook or clean houses and you can get paid, even if you don't have an education. Why would you think of sitting around and don't get a job?

Ya...I think you should get a job.

It's sad that you can't appreciate the resources that you're obviously taking for granted.

Good luck with it all.
Have a great day!

You dont realize how easy you have it! Theres people out there homeless, and you *bleep* about free rent. If you think section 8 is that bad then just get off and see how much the real world will treat you, now that would really suck :peace:

Times were lean for me at one time and i went down to see about a section 8 to help me and my teenage son (he was 15) We sit out at the welfare  office and i could not bring myself to go in there. Son said mom help me get a job. I did where i worked. He didn't care if it was dish washing and busboy. Then i got job #2 to supplement income. You too can go too work. The working class can be streched just so thin. Why should we bust our tails too support you.  It just seems like the more you guys get the more you want. If i could figure out a too keep from paying taxes i would.

I'm not sure what a section 8 is, but I would say get a job! Us poor taxpayers can't keep supporting everyone our deaf, dumb and blind government says needs us to.  I've been thru some really lean times also but I've always found that working hard at whatever job I had at the moment gave me a sense of pride and accomplishment AND put food on the table.  I had an aunt and uncle who used the system all their adult lives and it was a great source of embarrassment to the rest of the family.  They were just too lazy to work and were not hampered by any type of disability or anything else.  Go to work!!

I may just get a full time job for awhile, to keep us afloat. What do you think I should do? Um......you just answered your own question! It is so much better to work and provide your own way for you and your family instead of relying on the government to help you. Getting assistance, just makes people lazier in my opinion! You could have more if you worked a job and provided for yourself and not ask for help or get assistance. The thing is, if you want help from the government, they look into everything you do, and who wants that? You can have more freedom, working, even if you think more than 90% of it goes to bills and rent. At least, no one would be hounding you about what you are doing!!  :angry7:

I know right!  Like the government only gives you barely enough money to stay alive.  It's like they WANT you to support yourself. Bogus right?  It's not your fault that you don't have any marketable skills or education. It's the racist media.

As a case manager for people on food assistance, if you were one of my clients I would shut you down right there. By providing you w/section 8 status we are helping you to become self sufficient. By relieving your financial stress in that area I would be having you do X amount of job contacts each week and/or participating in some sort of activity to show that you are earning your housing, whether it be by doing community service, going back and getting your GED etc. I do understand each program is different but that is exactly what I would be making you do, not sit on your computer complaining (as I wonder how you afford your Internet - a luxury). There are so many people living at parks, under bridges and if they are fortunate enough shelters so stop taking what you have for granted. And if you have kids, for their sake, I hope you grow up so they have someone that is a good example in their lives.

Are you serious?  Try to get a job!  This is one of the reason honest taxpayers get very angry at extremely helpful programs - because they end up being misused by those who don't bother trying.

I have talked to many people that have a take on section 8 that is a bit different than yours.  One person(handicapped, two pre-teen children, and truly unable to work) had to wait, living in a mission house with a lot of other people, while section 8 housing became available.  I can only imagine that a percentage of the people living in the section 8 hve the ability to work and were displacing this person who actually needed the housing.  Kind of puts a different perspective on your plight and I guess it explains why some of these other people were responding so harshly.

First of all I'm confused as to how you can afford internet and a computer when you're worried about rent. I for one am sick getting up every morning at 5 and working in a plant without airconditioning, meaning it gets to 90 some degrees daily. I do this with a serious medical condition. When I leave my TRAILER HOME I leave behind neighbors who are still sleeping because they live off the government. Get off the pity pot and find a job, they are out there.
