Christmas isn't Christmas anymore!!!!
« on: August 20, 2012, 05:12:11 pm »
As the Christmas season approaches I can't help but to wonder why I don't feel excited anymore. Many claim that it is because this is a holiday mainly enjoyed more during a persons childhood. Normally by August I am ready to start my shopping, and I'm asking my kids what they want. But for the last three years I just haven't been in the spirit. It's not just Christmas though. Easter, Thanksgiving, and some of the other holidays that I use to cherish just aren't appealing to me anymore. Is it just me? The holidays just aren't the holidays anymore.

I have felt the same with Christmas I was always done shopping and all ready before Halloween but like you the past few years I'm not into it the stores are packed with rude people no one is nice kindness has just disappeared it seems. The meaning of all holiday's seems lost any holiday spirit I had or have always seem to be sucked out by the rude mean people.

I don't think it's just you, I'm the same way. Not that I don't like Christmas, but Halloween is really the only holiday I really get excited about.

my husband and i started taking vacation with our 3 kids about 3 yrs ago instead of the traditional christmas. we spend 7 days traveling and exploring differant states, no computers, tvs, phones and all the other stuff that gets in the way of family time. 7 whole days stuck in a car or hotel together is the best christmas as a mom. having my kids all to my self. we see museums, aquariums, land marks, historical place, what ever that particular state has we do. we still have christams dinner with family and they get a few presents under the tree but time together is the big gift, memories and experiences

I don'[t understand people who love love love christmas and all the stuff about it.When it's over they are depressed when the kids were little it was fun yes,but when they get older it's a mad rush to try and get what they want only to be dissapointed on the big day. Now with them grown with jobs i have my own wants so it's kinda fun.i hate all the advertizing it starts now, and will not be done until dec26th. i think if you have alot of money that would help you'd have more fun ok i'll ask santa for more money.

Christmas will always be Christmas because it is the celebration of God becoming incarnate in order to reconcile men to Himself. Unfortunately we humans have made the celebration for ourselves than to thank Him. Stick with the spiritual celebration and allow the "homemade" celebrations to be extra and maybe you will enjoy it more. :)

Christmas will always be Christmas because it is the celebration of God becoming incarnate in order to reconcile men to Himself.

That statement makes no sense because it is based upon an irrational premise and arrives at an unreasoned conclusion.  As such, it remains a superstitious religious opinion without evidentiary basis.  Of course, anyone who wishes to hold such empty religious opinions may do so, just as those who don't may reject publically-posted opinions of that nature.

When we are children, we are taught that Christmas is a time for presents along with the spiritual meaning of Christ's birth.
The focus is the presents.
Sometimes, Christmas is a reminder of loved ones who have passed away.

My children and I used to visit there Grandparents for Christmas.  There Nana lives for splurging, decorating and wrapping.  It was so overdone that we would start opening presents the night before between nieces and nephews and we weren't done till the night of Christmas.  So when there father and I divorced it took upon myself to extend his visitation with the kids for a week during Christmas...knowing this was a tradition for the kids and his parents.  That is when I decided the kids and I would celebrate when they came back home.  On New Years day...with only a few days left before back to school I decided we would go somewhere or do something we otherwise wouldn't do...nothing outrageous - but somewhere memorable.  We've gone to Shipshawanna, Indiana (Amish Country) And stayed at an all inclusive waterpark resort...one year we just went to a roller skating rink that was open late in honor of new years - that was an experience we'll never forget.  Another year we got together with friends and created our own Game Network night.  So for me Christmas has an entirely different feel and meaning.

I started not being in holiday spirit when I was a teenager,I would much rather read a book.  Beleieve me the adults where not happy with me, but  I felt I was the baby sitter with all the other  children that were younger than me, so that wasn't fun because a one especailly was a spolited rotten brat.  After grandma died instead of a regular holiday we (the adults) had a BBQ.  I raised my son without celabrating holidays, instead we would have a special family day and we as a family woulod decided when that would be.  And I would buy him and others in the family stuff through out the year, not only did I get some good bargins, but the especially the look on their faces when I got them stuff just because.  I think in the long run the children recieved more through the year and my son never compained and kids at school would be jealous because they would have to wait for a holiday or there birthday. Maybe you just need to change it up a bit.

I have noticed that many people don't celebrate Christmas anymore. This holiday isn't important anymore to some people. I love Christmas, and what it represents to the people. It is a celebration of the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. This is something that we should celebrate daily.

The spirit of Christmas has changed don't know why. It's not in the atmosphere like it used to be when I was a kid. I don't it's just for kids a lot of adults like the season it is so different now for some reason.
