My mom is a volunteer at a local hospital.
Once a year, the hospital sponsors an award  luncheon banquet.
She made a comment that there are just as many men volunteers as there are women.

That's great.  Usually I only see women volunteering.

Nursing homes could really use male volunteers as well.  Men need opportunities to interact with other men in their communities; their work experience and topics of conversation are frequently gender-specific and they are usually in the minority in a long-term care facility.

       Because of budget cuts very few companies want to pay wages...that is the reason we have so many volunteers.
