They threaten it each year and I'm glad I don't work for the government because we live from paycheck to paycheck and I feel sorry for those that do work for the government...

I think it's great - shut it down.  This government and the idiots running it will need to take responsibility for their stupidity.

To show how naive I am; when I my yahoo home page popped up that was the first thing I saw.  I announced to my husband, "Hey did you hear the government shut down?"  He says, "Yeah, they do it every year."  WHAT?  WHY?  I was completely astonished.  I had no idea - his explanation was they take some time off.  I mean we all need a break right?  He also said they'll get back on it in the beginning of the new year.  WHAT IN THE WORLD?  I thought teachers were the only ones with months off consecutively.

You will notice that the only people that are truly exercised over the govt. shut down are the media hypesters! There have been MANY shutdowns, and not one of them has had a really negative impact on anything at all... people that work for the govt. still get paid, eventually and all the essential matters are and always continued. It is all BS, and we would be better off if half the govt. never began operations again... :o

I heard there have been 17 shut downs since the 1970s so obviously we will survive. Representatives from both parties and the White House need to grow up.

Sick of hearing about it; they are playing with everday working people lives for which they seem to have no regard!

Well, it looks like the person who updates Michelle Obama's twitter was furloughed. Is anyone safe?

This is not actually a 'shut down' although the Democrat Party keeps screaming that it is, presently there has been a 'delay' in funding AUTHORIZATIONS and that has led to all manner of craziness taking place. The House has submitted, and continues to send over bill after bill that would restore funding for some of the areas that are being impacted but the Senate will not even bring those bills to the floor for consideration much less a vote. In reality, this is how this country has dealt with its financial matters in the past, piece by piece authorization bills for each area that needs funding. It has only been recently that they have tried these huge 'catch-all' funding bills and they have everyone been an unmitigated disaster. ALL of them have managed to become greatly expanded and very heavily inundated with 'pork barrel' measures that have nothing to do with the real needs of the running of the federal government entities.

True that the lynch pin in all of this current silliness is the one factor of Obamacare, the Dems want to have it fully funded and the Reps don't want it to continue at all. Serious impasse on that matter, and it is the thing keeping things at a stalemate. However, if you want to seriously fault anyone with government not being funded, blame the Senate as they already have the measures on hand to return money to the areas that we have always relied on.

Yeah and the  800,000 employees would not think the same.

Those 800,000 people will eventually get paid even for the time they are having off presently, if things go as they all ways have in the past. We could likely get along just fine if 2/3s of those folks never went back to work anyway!

If Obamacare is the one thing that the REPUBUBLICANS have a issue with, then they should have thought about this 3 years ago when they had a chance to implement and tweak the ACA. Since they had been denied 40 or so times of trying to shut this down. No American should have to go thru anything of a shutdown because they could not get it done the other 40 times way.
