Diets don't work, only making a lifestyle change will work.  If you eat healthy, you wont have all those restrictions.  A whole new world of foods is opened up to you just by being healthy and eating fresh foods.

I agree with you, I believe a good healthy diet is good but not the extremes.  I am working towards losing weight, consulted my doctor he gave ideas on what to do, prescribe a pill to help me along, and told me that the pill was only going to be for 3 months to help me along and after I should have gotten used to it and continue without help.  And he was right I have gotten use to it.  Never stopped eating just control portions and calories, but I eat everything normally.

The extreme dieting people I believe is just psychologically control by image and bad experience, you can eat healthy, exercise and eat everything with control and know how much you can eat.

Hey Gerianne ... yes, yes, yes! my aunt has a very restricted diet due to having had a bout with candida.  To get rid of that invasive thing, you have to cut back on almost everything.  I spent a lot of time working on recipes that she could eat.  I mean, really ... no wheat, nothing white (except red-skinned potatoes), no yeast, no sugar ... the list goes on and on with stages to incorporate foods. It took about a year for her to stabilize and then still staying away from any white food products and yeast, we've managed to have a pretty normal diet around here ... but it's probably normal to us because we've been doing it for years now! my aunt and I share a place and have done so since ~ wow ~ 2005 ... time flies huh.

I may be wrong but I think the OP meant being restricted by their diets meaning they are allergic to or can't have certain foods.  It amazes me how people can eat something all their life and then all of a sudden they are allergic to it.

I eat a normal breakfast but low-fat everything. I eat salads throughout the day and then a low-fat dinner. I'm also drinking more water.

I think it depends on why they are dieting. My SIL is on a special diet due to endometriosis and other issues. She is extremely limited in what she can eat. But if a diet to lose weight is completely ruling your life, I don't feel that is completely healthy.

I've been on a special diet were I can't eat pork or drink anything with aspitame in it these thing upset my stomach and make my skin break out in hives. So I have to stay away from those foods that contain these ingredance if I don't I could get sick really bad. I could tell you I was never like this when I was in my teens and twentys.

Well if you count your calories and don't go over what you should eat you can eat almost everything as long as you don't eat fast food (too many calories). Since I have restricted myself to making my own food and counting the calories I eat everything I like even cookies, cake and pie and don't gain weight. If I exercise I will lose some but everyone says I look good just the way I am and that makes me happy. I hope this helps some of you.

I'm not dieting, but I just watch what i eat. I think that you should eat everything in moderation; and then you're not "cheating" and eating things you shouldn't etc.
Good luck Dieters!

I hate diets. They never work on me. I just try to eat smaller portions more frequently and it seems to work fine.  :glasses-nerdy:
