Gorilla killed at the zoo

Blame nobody.  When we visit theme parks, zoos and other man made entertainment mixing wild, speed, instinct etc... we as humans know there is risk involved.  What happened was an accident.  And with the way our world is heading more senseless accidents are going to happen.  As parents we are responsible for our children.  How many parents have had accidents with there own children.. not involving Gorillas - we feel guilty.  Or on the flip side someone get's hurt in our home.  We feel bad.  Lessons learned.  1. The viewing area where the child was able to get through needs immediate attention. 2. Adults all need to be aware of our surroundings.

So are you saying that if the mother wasn't on the phone and watching her child instead this wouldn't have happened?

She wasn't on her phone when the kid fell in. Why do you keep bringing up something that didn't have anything to do with what happened?

I heard she was on her phone for 42 minutes, and you're sure it didn't happen?....and the kid kept telling his mother what he was going to go in there but it fell on deaf ears, or maybe because she was on the phone and not paying attention to her son.....that is why!!

The witnesses said she turned to her other child and within seconds the little boy took off. It only takes a split second

Ever been around kids? Happens all the time. Should the parents in this article be arrested as well?

All of this is quite common. I think most parents can relate with those comments from the parents above. What isn't common is the kid jumping into gorilla enclosure to play with them. The kids actions are the only difference in the stories, not the parents. The lynch mob to blame the parents has lost all perspective.

Sorry but my kids always stood by me and I made sure of that. Now my Grandkids stay with me as well...I STILL blame the parent, keep an eye on your kids at all times and stay off the phone...period...NOTHING should be more important than your children when you are out and about.

Well your the exception. Give yourself a medal.

Still, are you going charge the parent whose kid run's off just to look at an exhibit? Or runs back to a sandbox? If needing to blame someone helps you sleep at night, so be it.

No I sleep fine at night regardless. how many kids have to die before you blame a parent? luckily that didn't happen in this case.

Seriously? It was a tragedy. How many kids have to do die? Seriously? Is there an epidemic of kids jumping into gorilla enclosures? This was a freak accident.

OMG I'm speaking of in general. It doesn't have to be a gorilla, it could be in traffic if the parent isn't watching their kids....I don't believe I even had to explain this!!

There's nothing "in general" about this. It was a freak accident. I don't blame for parents for this. So, in this ONE instance, I didn't blame the parents. You were making the assumption that I never blame the parents. Not sure what basis you have for that? I'll judge any circumstance by the facts individually.

Ok it was the zoo's fault, they should of had a higher enclosure  around the gorilla area for the STUPID parents who don't watch their kids...happy now..have a good night.

This is exactly what I was talking about. I realize the sarcasm, but it illustrates your need to blame someone. If not the parents fault, it must be the zoo's? That's the problem. It was a freak accident.

I still blame the parents BUT...first "freak" accident in 38 years..not bad then..so sad all around ugh
