I use a hand mixer and add butter and milk.  Sometimes I will add garlic, bacon bits or shredded cheese.

I use hand  masher then whip with mixer is I want them lighter.  Butter, milk, salt, pepper are essentials.  Garlic, sour cream are options.  I've never tried the ranch but it sound delicious.

Hand mixer and I roast garlic and add them into the potatoes and they come out superb!! So Yummy if you are a garlic lover.

Mash by hand and add some cream and butter. Really the only trick to making them better is how much butter you're willing to put in. If there wasn't our health to worry about I'd probably be eating butter with a little potato in it lol

Haven't made mashed potatoes or cooked anything for that matter in ages although I love mashed potatoes. When I do make them I add a little milk and some real butter and mix them up with a hand mixer.  Now I am craving mashed potatoes.  yum

We make our potatoes from instant potatoes... milk & butter hand mixed.
I've made potato soup from instant potatoes & the soup came out excellent
