yeah I alwas donate things that are useful. remember hearing about the donating bins that people put clothes in that the clothes were sold never donated. good thing I haven't seen those lately.

 I volunteer at a local thrift shop. We except consignments and donations from the public.  It amazes me what people will donate. Probably close to 50% of the donations we receive we don't Put out in the shop  because it is not fit to sell.  Fortunately, for us we have a couple of charitable organizations that will pay us for the items we cannot sell.

Absolutely deplorable why not just throw it away. It is just to make themselves feel good.  Same with food donations people donate out of date (WAY out of date) moldy whatever.  It is shameful. 

Oh yeah, a few years ago a church I went to had a collection at the church for Thanksgiving (we were making baskets for x number of families) and one of the richest women in the church (and she had MONEY) went to a discount grocery store and bought the mac and cheese that has the powder that you get for 25 cents a box.  I thought that is so disgusting.  When we bought mac and cheese we got the velveeta shells and cheese with the liquid gold inside.

I pretty much agree with every thing said.  Yeah it amazed me.  There was a pair of jeans that was half way decent until I held them up and noticed what looked like brown paint on the leg.  Well it was noticeable and I thought why would you not just throw this away?  Some of the shirts were so disgusting it was unreal.  I commented to the person I was working with (she is like the assistant to the facility) and she said well these people don't have much so I guess they will take what they can get.  I was more disgusted with her comment than the dirty clothes.

When donating things I'm not real choosy. If someone is so poor as to need hand-out clothes, I seriously don't think they care the condition of the clothes. If the clothes are not fit for them, then let them decide.

I helped separate some clothes yesterday that had been donated to an organization that works with low income families.
At some point once a year the families can look at the clothes and take what they need.  The stuff that had been donated was horrible.  It was nasty old clothes that was stained and full of holes. Most of it looked like it should have been thrown away long ago.

I made a comment to the person I was working with who defended the stuff that had been donated.  Personally I would not donate anything that I would not wear myself.  It baffles me at how people will donate something that looks so horrible and say oh it is okay for somebody else to wear.

Just curious - what do you think about this?  It made me mad that people donate something that needs to be thrown away and say it is good enough for low income people to have.

I personally would never donate clothes that are deemed not good enough to wear. They are already in a difficult spot with having to put away their pride why make matters worse?

If they wouldn't wear it what makes them think someone else will? Yes it should be thrown away.  When I donate clothes they are always clean.  I also buy clothes from thrift stores and I wash them before I wear them

There's definitely a point where it becomes not worthy of donating.....I have donated stuff that's been slightly worn but wearable to say the least.
