Should I throw my boyfriend a party for his 51st Birthday?
« on: November 26, 2018, 09:09:56 pm »
I have social anxiety and I have bought it up to throw him a birthday party. That would mean I would have to get with his  sister etc. Or I could make it a quiet day with just me and him. Hmm..
What do you think?

He would want you to be happy especially on his birthday so I am sure he would not care either way, but the question you need to ask yourself is if you did not suffer with social anxiety would you want a party of just yourself and him or a party with the whole family.  If that answer is yes  to the whole family then ask yourself could you live with the guilt knowing this?  Knowing the axiety is stopping you from giving him the party you know he should have.  If the answer is no then your love for him, his happiness not just that of making you happy, should mean more to him than your anxiety.  Believe me, I know.  I suffer too, and I get physically sick when I panic, but I don't let it trap me from doing what I know is the right thing, for the other person, not just myself.  If you throw that whole family party he will know how hard it is for you and will do whatever he can to make you comfortable.  It doesn't even have to be  a long one.  Just one that he can celebrate with everyone that cares about him not just you.

If its his party then it shouldnt be about you :( Sorry
Maybe I missunderstood but why did you bring it up to throw him a party if you didnt think that you could handle it?
Maybe something in between, a quite dinner with him, you, his sister and if shes married her husband/boyfriend but thats all?

I personally am not the big birthday person - I would prefer a quiet day with close family.

So many factors would enter into a decision like this.  I would say it all depends on the individuals and what makes them happy.  Birthdays should be special occasions, but they don't have to involve big parties.  Follow your instincts, and do what you think will please your boyfriend.

Your boyfriend knows you and would like you to be comfortable on his birthday. You should help him celebrate in a way that you are comfortable with so you both can enjoy each others company.

If he's outgoing and like the spotlight. This should be based on his personality and likes. I'm quiet and don't like parties at all. Just saying :)

I love my decade parties with all the family and friends. My wife started it with a surprise 60th and now I have enjoyed the 70th and 80th, but not sure I will feel the same for my 90th. We have lots of food and visiting with people from all over that we don't see too often. The last one had over 70 there, what a blast.
