Is it still flu season?
« on: February 26, 2019, 01:56:40 pm »
Shannon called into his work and spoke with his boss.

"I think I am coming down with a bad case of the flu."

His boss listened in silence as Shannon continued.

"I have got aches and pains everywhere.  My head hurts.
I am nauseous, I feel week, I have a temperature.
And I have a wee cough,"

"OK, so you have a wee cough?" said his boss.

"Oh, thank you," said Shannon, "I am going to need at least a week off."

Good one Old Buddy. But yes to answer the question it is still flu season. And I sure wish people would stay home when  they are sick. But alas  they don't and I am sure glad I have had my flu shot.

Department of Health estimated  that the overall effectiveness for the flu vaccine was 33%, but may have been as low as 16% in preventing hospitalizations from the flu. Just so I can hammer the point home, the effectiveness against other flu strains was still quite high, although far from perfect.     There is nothing else on earth people would deal with that only works 16% of the time!!  say your car, or your  cell phone ,  And with that said, there is NO way i'm sticking mercury  in my body  to make some  drug company any richer than they already are.

Unfortunately it is still flu season and a flu shot, while people think is to prevent you from getting the flu, my doctor is quick to remind me that the shot isn't a preventive measure.  It is to make sure that, should you get the flu, it is not as 'intensified' or 'bad' as it could have been without it.  So it's basically to lessen the potency of the flu should one get it.

All I know is I have been getting the flu shot for over 20 years and I have only had the flu once in all that time. I was hospitalized, but the doctor told me I was most likely getting through it with less suffering because I had the shot.

Everyone can't stay home when they are sick.  People have to work.  And most employers demand a doctors excuse if you miss one day.  When you work fast food, part time, min wage, you cannot afford to spend 2 paychecks going to the doctor for a bad cold.  Plus the fact that they cannot afford to miss the work.  And they will be fired for missing several days for a cold.

It is the same even in higher paying jobs.  You can't just stay at home. I am sure it would be nice though.

It is easy to sit and judge and throw stones when you don't have to work.  IF you did work you would know you can't just "stay at home" when you are sick.

As for the flu shot - that is a joke.  Every single person I know that got the flu shot this year ended up with the flu.  OR that is what the doctor said.  Most were not actually tested but diagnosed on symptoms alone.

I have never had the flu shot and never had the flu.  I was working on a job this past fall and they tried to say everybody had to have the flu shot.  I told them no and they could not force me to take it.  Several of the ones who took the shot got the flu.  Several missed a week of work and one of them died.  So yeah take your flu shot. But I am not going to accept it.

LOL  I have never heard that.  The flu shot is suppose to protect you against getting the flu.  Not to give you the flu.

Cute!  My husband and I listen to the "Outlander" series audio books, set in Scotland, and everything is a "wee" that and a "wee" this, so I particularly liked the "wee-cough" play on words.  I get very paranoid this time of year about going out in public. I haven't heard as many reports of flu this year, as I've heard in the past, but maybe it just hasn't gotten going good yet.  When I'm in a store, and hear somebody coughing, I turn and walk the other way!

It will be March in 2 days. I would not think the "flu season" had not gotten going good yet.  I do know more people are sick in the winter and I am not sure why.  I do try to stay away from people all I can.

And thank you for your "wee cough".  I wondered what was suppose to be funny about the joke. lol

That was funny.  Yes it is still the flu season.  In the United States, the flu season is considered October through May. It usually peaks in February. In Australia, the flu season is considered May to October.   :( :( :( :(
