Warning, you better read....
« on: July 30, 2019, 08:40:38 am »
I just was invited to a survey (on another site) and it was one of the ones that has 2 pages of consent to read.  I don't know if anybody reads all this or just agrees to it.

I was skimming, because they all say the same thing, or so you think, but this actually said there is a "chance of the loss of your privacy"

I ticked "i do not consent" and was kicked out.  I got a nickel for trying though. lol

I find the surveys which ask if they can observe you through your web camera really creepy. I always click off when I get one of those.

I would have probably not agreed to the survey either, but in all honesty it probably doesn't mean much. It is just a way of covering their bases in case any data breach would actually happen. Then the company would be protected from lawsuits because they warned you and you agreed before providing that information.

Yeah, some of them will allow you to do it and not use the web cam.  So don't just auto x out.  Just deny access when it asks.  I have something taped over my camera so if somebody accesses it they will just see black.  I take take off if I want to use it.  I have only used it when I talked to a friend a few years ago.  The program we used is no longer available.

You're welcome.  I have seen something kind of like this a couple times.  There was something else I done once and it had a disclaimer saying something about granting them access to things on your computer.  People are too quick to just agree to the TOS.  Stop and read the TOS that you agree to when you download apps on your phone.  That has been a deal breaker for me a couple times.

Hey, don't feel bad, at least you got something for your trouble. I usually, just blindly agree because I usually, in the end don't qualify but I get a few cents for my time.

Thus why I made this thread. You better read what you are agreeing to.  I almost clicked agree and went on and just happened to notice that and read it closer.  If you "agree" then you are saying it is okay to use your info.

I saw one this morning that wanted to upload a 1 minute video and it said you grant them the right to use your video for whatever they want to after you submit it.  Thus they can use your face and video and dub whatever words they want to and have you saying it.  May be far fetched but they can have you saying, endorsing, or doing anything.  Remember the tv show where they videoed women saying something totally innocent and dubbed over it and make s-e-x- videos? You never know.

I never ran across a survey that had that much info to read before signing a consent.

Really?  I have had several that have like a one page disclaimer.  Telling who is behind the survey, that it is about, and a bunch of other stuff.  Usually it is one of the studies done by a university or something.

lol.  I know.  You do not expect anything to be in there that matters.  I was doing one that had to do with videoing your responses and it said that when you upload your video they have sole rights to the video and can use it how ever they want.  Uh I don't think so.  So I went on and when it asked to access the webcam I said NO and it kicked me out.
