I have mixed feelings about barking dogs. In my neighborhood, we have a next door neighbor with dogs who usually are fine, but they bark like mad whenever they see people on the street or outside.  We share a side and back yard chain link fence and so the dogs are literally less than ten feet away from our house when they decide to start barking.

Anytime that we go into our back yard to grill or just enjoy a bit of fresh air, if the neighbor's dogs are out - they immediately run to the fence and start barking incessantly at us.

To be fair, the owners are usually pretty responsive and bring them back inside when that happens, but not always.

When the neighborhood's houses are right on top of each other and the back yards are less square feet than the houses themselves, I question the logic of having multiple dogs.

Given all of that and the frustration that comes with it, I still don't think I would have the gall to openly suggest obedience training to my neighbors.

So who decides what these "quite hours" are?

Cities, counties, or states decide. I live in a major city and you can't run loud machines or power tools (saws, drills, lawn mowers, etc)  between 10pm and 7am.

I don't like it when I am trying to sleep at night and the neighbors who party all night are out in the yard hollering and carrying on.

So you don't like it when people are making noise when you are trying to sleep, but it's tough noogies for your neighbors when you want to mow the lawn at 6:30am?  ???

The first time she told Bob that we need to teach our puppy some manners and reward her when she doesn't bark (is that even possible?)

It's sounds weird, but it is possible. If you teach your dog to "speak" on command and then it's easier to teach them "hush".  :)

Speak  http://www.doggiebuddy.com/topics/tricks/speak.html
Step 1: Get your dog to bark. For example, if you know that your dog barks when the doorbell is rung, then ring the bell, and when he barks say "Speak" and click and treat.
Step 2: After repeating this several times, try giving him the command (Speak). If he obeys and barks, give him a jackpot.

Hush  http://www.doggiebuddy.com/topics/tricks/hush.html
Step 1: Focus your attention on your dog while he is barking. If he looks at you and stops barking, even for a second, click and treat.
Step 2: Repeat this several times, eventually adding the word "Hush" as you click and treat.
Step 3: After several training sessions while your dog is barking, give your dog the command and click and treat when he hushes. Repeat this until he has mastered the trick. Each time you repeat, try and go for longer durations of silence.
Step 4: You can now add a hand signal to help with this trick. Use it whenever you give the command, and he'll associate it with the trick.

There are no laws about noise where I live. If there are they are not enforced.  If someone is playing LOUD music and someone complains the police will tell them to turn it down.

And as far as the loud music or cars I do not go start something.  That was the whole point.  They make noise and I go on with my life.  If people don't like me mowing in the morning then screw them.  Or they can mow my yard for me when it is hot.

Yeah that is what dogs do, they bark all the time, you can tell them to be quiet, but will start again, you will see people putting a muzzle on them, but that's because they don't want them to bite people.

Not all dogs bite people and not all dogs bark.  The last dog I had did not bark.  If he did something was wrong. And you can't just put a muzzle on a dog and leave it all the time.  If you are going to do that then you do not need to even have a dog.

I agree that she needs to get a life.  Dogs bark.  That is in their nature.  One day she might benefit from the dog barking, he could save her from something bad.

I can see both sides of it. My neighbor lets his dog out about 8:AM and the barking sometimes wakes me up and I'm not pleased. But I can't complain. He's a dog. He barks like dogs do and it's usually over in a few minutes. No big deal.

At the risk of stoking countrygirl12's ire, 6:30AM is waaaaay too early to be mowing a lawn.  :D I had a guy used to power blow his leaves in the fall and it was annoying, but that was around 8:AM as well.

All neighborhoods have City Ordinances. Typically you can't make noise from 9 or 10:PM to 7 or 8:AM depending on your town.

Well, I know for certain he has 9 accounts. He must have 'thanked' himself with each one of them.  :D Can't see anyone else thanking him. Even the other JWs in the forum call him a bad example.

And what do u think the other JWs think about some of u?

We would be the first to admit we arent perfect and teach with authority. You wanna throw first stone? We ask for other posts to be cut and pasted that warranted hitches ban.NOTHING so far.As we said many times there have been other topics far more worse then his...there have been cheating on surveys.....pics of guns.....none of us have earned a dime on FC.We dont try to get referrals and believe me we could....lots of bookkeeping if u did....not worth it....just use forum.Hitch left with $20 in acct and wasnt banned from earning either. We dont need the money.

Again truth of matter is some of ur despise for JWs as many hated Jesus for speaking truth too.We are guilty of not ignoring the ignorant. We are human. And if anything i will admit if there are other JWs here that are following this we are disappointed they couldnt see our stand too.But we also realize they arent perfect either.

Exactly, they are decided by our elected officials, so we, the voters, enacted the noise ordinance times. Noise Ordinances for one's city or county can easily be looked up online ... at least here in Cali.  Probably can call city hall or the police department if they aren't published.  The hours are not a secret, nor are they arbitrarily decided.
