Different Types of Exercise Activities
« on: November 05, 2020, 06:41:26 am »
It is important to choose exercises that are enjoyable and sustainable because routine leads to long-term success.  Here are reminders of examples of these type activities:

*Aerobic Activities include brisk walking, water aerobics, tai chi, dancing, and yard work.

*Muscle Strengthening Activities may involve the use of exercise bands, hand-held weights or weight machines, or body-weight exercises like pushups.

*Balance Exercises include standing on one foot, walking heel-to-toe, and toe raises.

*Stretching can also be incorporated into the warm up and cool down surrounding exercise.  It helps to maintain the flexibility of the joints.

The older you get, the more important these are to try slowly and carefully.  But after you do them for awhile you should be able to progress in weight, reps, or duration, for example.  Start fairly young and your body will reward you.

I have been walking every day I can for the last six months and plan to keep it going. I have a route in front of my house that takes 5 minutes and go around 4 time, working my way back up to six times. I backed off when surgery or injury  dictated, but resumed as soon as I could.

Yes! Walk everyday. With Covid 19 and mandatory lockdown, you can also
remain physically active by doing some exercises at home.

I use https://simplyfitboard.com/. I feel great!

I got mine at Walmart a couple years ago. I seen them at Bed, Bath & Beyond, Frys & Kmart if still open in area!

I've been a walker for a long time but have had to cut back the last month due to a broken ankle

I started walking super early in the morning every day for the past two weeks. Thus far, I have seen some VERY good results!

I am so missing going to my gym and working out with several trainers I had signed up with.  I was really starting to get into the mindset and feel results, and then Covid!!!  Even at my age, the results were becoming apparent after about 4-5 months of consistent workouts.  It goes to show that muscle and mind responds at any age.  Don't give up!

My wife and I just started going back to the gym about two weeks ago. We went regularly before the virus hit, but obviously that all changed back in the spring. We always go super early in the morning because she has an early start to her work day - so it is typically not very crowded then.

Frankly, I could live without it. I do a lot of walking outdoors - even during the winter months. And I have some weights in the basement that I use regularly. But my wife isn't able to walk in cold weather and she will not go into our basement - which is wet/unfinished and has had sewer backups on occasion - unless she absolutely has to. I basically go to the gym as companion support for her so that she doesn't have to go alone at 4:00 a.m.

Don't exercise as much as I used to.  Too busy.  Care for a 7 month old grandchild.  However, I count the endless picking him up and down as weight exercises.  Like lifting weights cause he's a chunky one.

Well, I only run in the colder months. I can't handle running in the heat and humidity. So I was excited when October came around > yay, running weather. And here we are in November with 75 degree heat. I only attempted to run once this week, and it was a disaster. But temps are supposed to drop down to normal next week... we'll see.

Good job on incorporating stretches into this post- personally, I know I need to do it more and it's more beneficial than we realize to our overall health.

Lifting him can be counted as exercise; exercise is anything that requires movement, even playing with adorable grandchildren
