Potatoes, potatoes, potatoes
« on: October 06, 2021, 12:29:13 pm »
This is something that helps me cook potatoes, which I love :

When you put them in the microwave, poke holes in them with a fork and they cook faster. They really don't mind.

If you want to do potatoes on the stove, put them in the microwave first; then cut them and season them prior to frying or sauteing. Add some butter for better flavor if you're cooking with oil.

A baked potato only takes about four minutes, depending on how large it is. When you take it out of the oven, take a towel and kind of squish it. Then when you open it, it will be easier to season and eat.

This part is a secret, so don't tell anyone.  :moneymouth: To do potato salad, make sure all the potatoes are about the same size. Then boil them till they are slightly tender. Take them out and let them cool on the counter until you can handle them comfortably.

Then you peel and cut them into bit-size pieces and put them in a bowl, salt them and put vinaigrette salad dressing on them to marinade. I like eggs in my potato salad, so to add them, I first make them into egg salad with extra mayo and then put into the potatoes. I also add pickle relish and/or olives with mayo or Miracle Whip. You can add sliced celery too. I like that too, but it's just kind of an extra. Just my version of doing it.

I've already shared how to make great boiled eggs on the forum before so I won't rehash that now. It's a little involved but actually quite simple to do.

BTW, in case you were unaware, butter and sour cream are always yummy on potatoes unless you're lactose intolerant.  :sad1: Then I'm sorry and God help you.

I saw this device RE eggs on a commercial on TV to quickly make hard boiled eggs faster and peeling them was easier.

You put water in the device and then micro-wave for a few minutes. Then they showed you how to release the egg from the shell in a way that saved the time from peeling them.

The device sold for $20 and i think they gave you 2 of them.

I was tempted to buy it and havent yet.We are big fans of hard-boiled eggs and they are great too when you make homemade macaroni and potato salad and other delicious dishes.

I was wondering if any FC members may have bought this device and can give us a reference to how good it works.

Thanx

I havent seen the commercial lately, usually i see it on ME TV and have been curious how good it works.

Lots of great ideas. Thanks for sharing.
When i cook potatoes i roast them in the air fryer. I cut them in small pieces and they don't take long to cook! :pumpkin: :pumpkin: :peace:

We quit using the microwave a long time ago.  We cook ours in the crock pot and then roast them or make French fries.
To make hash browns, I did use the microwave to heat the hash browns and then fry.

I haven't tried the new one but the idea is from the 50s. I still use the one mom bought years ago. It was made by  Sunbeam product.  It only has room for 5 eggs at a time. It worked great but lately it sometimes argues with me and the water boils out (even though I don't over fill it) and using 5 eggs, they don't get completely done. It saddens me because I love that egg cooker.

sounds interesting, but I really don't mind boiling them on the stove. As far as peeling, just make sure the eggs are older, say a week or more and they peel a lot easier.

So i was wondering how different the old one was from the one on the TV info-mercial?

And if my memory serves me well SFREE,you said you also bought that device that saves electricity?

I put the post up about it over a yr ago and i can honestly say i have saved over a $1000 with it.You never mentioned it anymore so maybe you didnt have the fortune i had with it.

I love potatoes! I normally place them in a bowl with water and cover the bowl with plastic wrap and cook on 10 minutes. Baking takes too long.
