Abandoned cars

I find it so odd when I see abandoned cars on the side of the road...I guess it seems weird, but I have to ask myself "did this person just drop there car off and walk somewhere or something"... I mean, why not get it towed somewhere?

In some cases people do not have a tow service, so just leave it where it stopped working.

Call the police. The police can get these abandoned cars to a yard with of other cars.

Where I live, if a car is parked on a street more than 72 hours get a ticket & mark the tire with chalk. If it is still has not moved, the car gets towed!

Are you talking about abandoned as in sitting there for weeks or months on end that you see on multiple trips driving by it, or do you mean just a random vehicle on the side of the road.


Granted it was pre-cell phone days, but I once had a car that twice died on me on the highway (both times in the EXACT SAME spot). Both times it was unanticipated and I had no other choice than to coast over to the berm of the road and walk for a few miles to a pay phone and schedule a service call for the following day.


But to anyone who drove by in that time - it would have looked like an abandoned car.

When I see cars on the side of the road, unless it's there the next time I go out I automatically assume they'll be back to get it soon and that's just where it stopped.

That's true; many years ago my mother left her car in another state where it stopped because the repairs equaled more than the cost of the car.

In some cases people do not have a tow service, so just leave it where it stopped working.

I see lots of cars that have broken down on the side of the road.  Sometimes they are there a long time, but most of the time they get towed to be worked on.
