Hormone level test for men what should I check
« on: April 09, 2026, 12:33:33 pm »
For the last few months I’ve been going back and forth on whether it is worth doing a hormone test, because I do have a mix of symptoms but nothing feels dramatic on its own. The main things are low energy, poorer sleep, less drive, and that annoying brain fog where simple tasks take more effort than they should. I also noticed my strength is not where it used to be, even though I’m still trying to stay consistent with exercise. What makes it harder is that when you search this topic, people often say “check testosterone” and leave it at that. I’m not convinced that one marker alone is enough to explain everything, especially if other hormones can affect how testosterone works. I would rather do it properly once than miss something and stay confused. If anyone knows which hormone tests actually matter for men, I’d be glad to hear a more complete answer.

Not long ago I was reading up on exactly that, because I had the same feeling that total testosterone alone was too limited. I found https://evernu.co.uk/blog/how-to-check-hormone-levels-men really useful because it explains which markers matter and why each one is included. It goes through total testosterone, free testosterone, SHBG, oestradiol, LH, FSH, prolactin, and thyroid hormones, and it also mentions additional markers like cortisol, DHEA-S, insulin or HbA1c, and vitamin D depending on symptoms and history. What I liked is that it explains how the results fit together, for example why a normal total testosterone can still be misleading if SHBG is high and free testosterone is low. It also breaks down what LH can suggest about whether the issue is more likely testicular or related to the pituitary or hypothalamus. There is even a section on what to do if results come back abnormal, including repeat testing and looking at possible causes. It felt much more complete than the usual advice people throw around online.

Questions like this make sense because hormone testing can seem simple on the surface, but the details matter quite a lot. Looking at only one value may miss the reason why someone feels unwell, especially when several hormones interact with each other. It also seems important to match lab results with symptoms rather than treating the numbers as the whole story. The idea of checking testosterone together with SHBG, pituitary markers, and thyroid markers sounds more complete than a very narrow test. Another useful point is that results sometimes need confirmation, not just a single snapshot taken once. Overall, a broader and more careful approach seems more helpful when the symptoms have been lingering for a while.
