Off-Topic / Re: post office mail
« on: September 30, 2013, 08:35:24 am »Message ID: 799636
I look forward to getting my mail when I am expecting something good. However, my mail carrier often delivers mail that was meant for someone else, sometimes the people live miles away. My  mail has been delivered to me via people who received my mail by mistake- often from distant neighborhoods. So, I recently found out that I had an unpaid bill that was sent to collections. I called the medical company and told them of my plight and paid them directly. I asked them to PLEASE CALL ME if I don't pay in a timely manner due to this problem. I hope they'll call me. I am more than willing and able to pay what I owe!

Off-Topic / Re: Your earliest memory
« on: September 30, 2013, 08:32:17 am »Message ID: 799635
I was less than 1 1/2 years old. My mom took me across the country to see her dieing mom (my grandma). I was old enough to walk/run. My mom and her parents tried to get me to stop going on my grandparents' porch. I kept going anyway to get the "candy." I also thought that everyone there spoke funny and had a hard time understanding them. When I was 6, I was terrified to go back to see my grandpa get remarried (my 1st grandma had already passed on years before) because I thought they spoke a different language.

My memory was distorted, the "candy" was really a crate of grapes. Yes, they do speak differently than where I grew up. They use different words and a different accent, but still spoke my mother tongue. Funny how I remembered things at such a young age and that the way I remembered them was way off.

I sing for fun. I don't think anyone would pay to hear me. They're more likely to pay to have me stop.

Off-Topic / Re: If you was selected president how would you change the economy, and why?
« on: September 30, 2013, 08:21:53 am »Message ID: 799631
I am not sure that the President really has as much power to change the economy as he claims. I know he can influence people, even blackmail them, but the way our government is set up, it really isn't designed to legally grant him that power.

I recently heard a speech where someone said that our economy is going south because there are more people leaving the workforce (due to the fact that the baby boomers and subsequent generations have, as a whole, had fewer children or no children at all) and are consuming less than the generations that are in the work force and entering it. So, unless we get rid of or improve the social programs we have in place, we will continue to have these problems. Another option is to force as many as are able to continue working and not claim social security until they are no longer able to work.

This person obviously doesn't have all the answers, but the fact is that there are significantly more people taking money out of the social security and medicare pools than contributing. No president or legislator wants to pull the plug. They want to put as much as they can toward saving these (and other similar) programs.

Off-Topic / Robin Hood- BBC version
« on: September 30, 2013, 08:06:38 am »Message ID: 799630
Has anyone seen the BBC series Robin Hood? I recently discovered it on Netflix. Its story line was different than what I've read as well as the movies I've seen. I enjoyed the first season. The last season, not quite as awesome, but still a lot better than other series I've seen.

I don't watch much TV, so I haven't heard about this show yet. What is so good about it? Who are the actors? What is the plot line like for each episode? Convince me and I may watch it.

Off-Topic / Nut Allergies
« on: September 30, 2013, 08:02:18 am »Message ID: 799628
It seems that a lot of people have nut and peanut allergies these days. Many schools and kids' activities ban peanuts and nuts from lunches and snacks brought from home or grocery store. What are your experiences with this? Do you think it's a good idea to ban foods- even foods that MAY CONTAIN NUTS OR PEANUTS from such activities?

My husband was one of the kids growing up who was allergic to nuts. No one changed the rules to keep him safe. He learned how to keep himself safe. I wonder if it's better to help them kids learn how to stay safe or if it is better to have everyone around them keep them safe and hope for the best when they venture out on their own as grown ups.

I like the Peanuts as well but I guess I have to say the old Tom and Jerry and Looney toons cartoons. They were clean. Not like some of today's stuff.

When I was little, I used to get up from my nap just to watch Tom and Jerry. I really LOVE Looney Tunes. Now, I watch Bugs Bunny with my kids. Those were some really fun cartoons and a lot better than the ones today, as you said.

I would go to Australia. I have a birthmark that looks like Australia, so I've always seen it as a sign that I should go there. I also want to take my kids to as many US historical sites as I can in the next 5 years.

I like Thanksgiving because I get together with family and it's more relaxing than Christmas.  The pressure isn't really there- unless I feel competitive about making the best dish. The weather is usually better at Thanksgiving, so we often go to the zoo or do other fun activities, too.

Way to go! My computer has over heated when I've tried to do the simplest things lately. I even blew air through the fans. I think my computer is not doing well, so it's hard to do much on any website at this time. The only reason I am able to post today is because I am using my brother's computer.

I haven't had one yet. I do go to a chiropractor and  my husband rubs essential oils on my back. That is the closest I have ever gotten to a massage.

I get the Bank Card Services call, too. I think it's a scam. Don't answer it!

Also, I get one from Windows Department claiming my computer has a virus. I hang up on them. I don't see a name on the caller ID for those, so it's hard to know whether to answer or not.

My father in law will tell the caller from places like these that he needs their billing information because he is sending them a bill for the time they wasted. That quiets them up really quickly. Also, for legit companies, tell them to take your name off the list and never call you again. I bet it wouldn't work with Bank Card Services and Windows Department because they're committing fraud in the first place.

I like reading the forums because I see a lot of interesting opinions. I like watching the videos because I'm getting paid to view movie trailers that I would have watched anyway. Even better, I'm getting paid to search online. I do a lot of searches daily for research purposes, so why not get paid to search? Also, I buy from online retailers and now I'm getting a cut on some of my purchases.
