Off-Topic / Simple Solution

I found a new tool today that helps me get the Smart Searches done in the Video section. It's a countdown timer website that I open in another tab so it shows the time left on the tab and even rings an alarm when it's finished. No more guessing.

Off-Topic / How many legs does a dog have if you call his tail a leg?

He still has four legs, just because you call the tail a leg doesn't make it one.

Off-Topic / Amazon Echo Show

We have had the Echo Dot for a couple of years and still get a kick out of it, so when I saw the Echo Show on sale for Cyber Monday I ordered the 8 inch one for the kitchen. That seems to be the best size from all the reviews I read.

Anyone else getting one?

Off-Topic / Addicted to speed
« on: December 01, 2019, 08:02:07 am »Message ID: 1303227
I started noticing that some of my friends (that also use computers), have newer machines that were a lot faster than my old clunker.  Then it came to my attention that there is a new product online call a hybrid solid state hard disk drive.  It has regular storage like all the old style hard drives, but it also has an eight GB solid-state drive built in where it keeps all the most used software (like you're operating system) and only goes to the slower hard drive when it needs something.  They claimed that it increases the speed of your computer by 3 to 5 times.

Well after reading a lot of reviews and comments by other people who have tried these I decided to bite the bullet and go for one myself and I'm extremely happy that I did.

I love new toys anyway!

I set up AutoHotKey to fill in the reasons I didn't finish a Tap Research survey and it makes it quick and easy.

Offers / My Survey Miracle
« on: October 19, 2019, 10:14:26 am »Message ID: 1297639
Rather than complain about the thousands of surveys that I have taken without this miracle coming to light, I am just thrilled that I finally found it.   :star:

I recently shared how happy I was to find voice recognition in my Windows 10, so I can save my Arthritic fingers from suffering through all the survey I take, but my most recent discovery overshadows that by far.

AutoHotKey is a Script utility that has been around forever, but I never knew it. It does way more than what I need, but yesterday I installed it very simply, wrote up a custom script in my text editor and ran it just before I start taking surveys this morning.

Now when a survey asks for my age I simply type control a, or for my zip code control Z and even more exciting to me is when one of those text boxes comes up that tells me to fill in two or three sentence to answer the question, I have a list of simple short codes I can type in, to fill a whole paragraph in a second, such as   >fc to tell about my favorite car, or >mv to share my favorite movie.

For those who think this may be too technical, here is a short example of the script I used today;

;~~~~~~ My Survey Script ~~~~~

Send, 81 ;My Age

Send, 97224 ;My Zip

::>fc:: This is my canned response that will be filled in when I type the code into the text box and can be as long as I want it to be.

Once I save the script (survey.ahk) all I do is right click on it and select Run Script.
I leave my text editor open while I work so I can make updates, save them and run the script again very quickly.

I admit that I spent half a day to learn about this, but I just saved you most of that time right here.

Have Fun!

Off-Topic / My Newest Toy

As I get older, the Arthritis in my hands makes it harder to comment on the forum or write press releases for my IBO Toolbox.  So you can imagine how happy I was to be reminded that windows 10 now comes with voice recognition built in.

Now I can just talk (which is something I'm pretty good with) and then paste it into the forum comment box and I'm good to go (after I make a few corrections or fix the punctuation).  I would much rather proofread than type.

If you are curious if this would work for you, do a Google search for Win 10 speech recognition and it may be a big surprise to you how simple it is to set up and use.

Now I don't need to worry about how long my comments or posts are, because I can just talk and post.

If you want to see some more examples just Google IBO toolbox oldbuddy And read some of my latest Press Releases.

FusionCash / Surprise Bonus

I hear a lot of comments from both participants of the Fusioncash website and other friends who know about it, saying it's too little money for the time we spend on each activity.

But I am learning that through our participation here, other doors may be opened  that bring additional income. For example, I just got a call from a local research hospital that is doing a study involving people over 75 years old who are willing to submit to various tests and interviews over the next year and if accepted they get $375 in cash.

The study concerns the effects on the brain from spending time alone and changes that can be made through social interaction to keep us from getting Alzheimer, Dementia, etc. I have often thought about prevention being a good idea, so helping research this area may even be self-serving.

I don't know if that would interest you, but I am going for it.

A completely naked woman rushed into the back seat of a taxi.
The surprised taxi driver turned back and stared at her so keenly.

The woman asked the taxi driver,
"Why are you staring at me that way, haven't you ever seen a naked woman?"

The taxi driver replied,
"Yes, but I'm worried about where you have my money."

Off-Topic / How To Get Results

A sweet grandmother telephoned St. Joseph's Hospital. She timidly asked,
"Is it possible to speak to someone who can tell me how a patient is doing?"

The operator said, "I'll be glad to help, dear.
What's the name and room number of the patient?"

The grandmother in her weak, tremulous voice said,
Norma Findlay, Room 302."
The operator replied, "Let me put you on hold while I check with the
nurse's station for that room."

After a few minutes, the operator returned to the phone and said,
"I have good news. Her nurse just told me that Norma is doing well. Her
blood pressure is fine; her blood work just came back normal and her
Physician, Dr. Cohen, has scheduled her to be discharged tomorrow."
The grandmother said, "Thank you. That's wonderful. I was so worried.
God bless you for the good News."

The operator replied, "You're more than welcome. Is Norma your daughter?"

The grandmother said, "No, I'm Norma Findlay in Room 302.
No one tells me *bleep* around here."

Off-Topic / Who Knew...Little Johnny Was Right?
« on: September 17, 2019, 12:36:53 pm »Message ID: 1293263
Little Johnny's teacher, Mrs. Wagner, announced that she wanted each student to write a report on what they wanted to be and why.  The report was due at the end of the week.

Little Johnny knew what he wanted to be, so the report was going to be easy.

Friday came and each student had to get up in front of the class and read their report.  Johnny heard about aspirations to be dancers, dentists, movie stars, doctors, and veterinarians.

Johnny's report was different...unique.

Johnny went on for several minutes about his dream job.  To sum up his report, Johnny wanted to become a garbage collector and his number one reason was that they only worked on Thursdays.

Believe It or Not!

Johnny may have had a few facts wrong, but being a garbage collector is considered to be one of the BEST JOBS!

Just in case there are a few of you that use images online, I found a new tool today that blew me away.

I have (and use) Photoshop Elements a lot, but just last week I wanted to remove a cluttered background from a photo of myself and spent an hour or two studying YouTube Videos and practicing, only to get a fair result. Frustrating to say the least.

So you can imagine how thrilled I was to find a web based app that did the job in 5 seconds or so and even replaced the background with a new one (even your own image) if a few more seconds.

I did play with it for a while and it's not perfect, but it actually made me giggle it was so cool. I did discover that the images need to be optimized and resized before they work well, but there are lots of places online you can do that for free too.

So for those who are wondering what this is all about, go try out

Have fun playing with it.
