I just posted this in another thread, but I'll repost it here...

Yeah, I have been getting a little pop up that says, "not a valid search."  I still get the page and the results, and I click on them and find what I'm looking for, but I'm not getting credited for my searches and it is driving me bonkers.

I get that message on occasion, too, and it is indeed pretty frustrating when I AM doing what I would consider a valid search...

I noticed a few things about what would not be considered valid searches:
-special characters (example: "Belén Rueda")
-excessive numbers and/or punctuation (example: "10,000 year old arrowhead")
-not clicking any results
-entering URL links

That's off the top of my head. There's probably more that I'm just not remembering at the moment. :p

Yesterday was the first time I've done searches in a while. I only had one search that was not considered a valid search, and that was "10,000 year old arrowhead."

Hope that helps!

The things I was searching involved no numbers or special characters.  It was things like "voice cast of [movie]" (w/o the brackets, of course) or "grain-free egg-free scones" "Who originated the term prevening," etc.  I click the results, except for the rare occasion when I'm looking for a definition and you can see the answer right in the description.  Even then, I usually click the results unless I'm in a big hurry.

Well I think they know that women do all these things...but their target demographic is going to be one where their sales/exposure is DOWN.  So you know, women already like Mike's and other malted beverages, in many cases...but guys often perceive it as not "manly" (probably due to expletive-centered nickname for wine coolers and malted drinks), so they are trying to improve their reach w/in the young macho dude demographic.

I get the nat geo ones, though, and the bordeaux...just not direct tv, exxon, or pacifico. The Rumchata one is clearly aimed at women, so I imagine it's always good for a penny.

Yeah, I think I'll just stick with my other search providers and leave everything else for FC.  Seems like we get more credit here for videos and definitely for surveys and offers; but search is just not working for me.

OK, so one of the things that I have always done (but now enjoy even more since joining FC) is searching the internet while my husband and I watch TV and/or movies.  If it is a show that has been around for a while but we are JUST tuning in, I'll google synopses and character relationships and whatever else I'm curious about while we're watching.  Or sometimes it is pop-culture references that are before my time (or, just as likely, too new), or factoids that come up because of whatever we're watching.  I love this, because I would be doing it anyway, but now I can earn money for it, except...

Since 2 days ago ALLLLLL of my searches are coming up, "not a valid search."  I still get search results, but I also get a notification that the theoretically all-knowing algorithm thinks I'm just searching random word pairings or things I might already know the answer to.  I have tried rephrasing my queries, but it doesn't seem to matter.  Now, if I search TV or movie info, it basically always gets flagged.

Has anyone else experienced this???

I seriously cannot wait for Once Upon a Time.  Although I was really weirded out by the romance storyline (SPOILER ALERT).  Does anyone else realize that Emma is in love with the man that ran off with the mother of her late love-interest.  #littlemessedup if you ask me.  But I love the premise, and the redemptive story lines, and the element of fantasy intersecting with the everyday.  It is a pretty phenomenal show.

Off-Topic / Re: Do you still read actual books or your kindle?

I PREFER actual books, definitely.  I have to say, though, I really love having a kindle app on my phone.  When I'm in a waiting room, I don't have to worry if their magazine collection is cheesy, or if my wait is super long.  I can read (If, by chance, I don't have my kiddos with me!).  My YouVersion Bible app is nice, too, for church, because my kids can't pull on it and tear out pages.  I get so frustrated trying to keep my Bible out of their hands and steering them toward their more indestructible kids' Bible. So I almost never bring a print Bible with me to church, anymore.  I usually just keep my phone with me. While I totally resonate with Rory Gilmore always having a book on her person, and I usually do have one or two even beside my phone, it's nice not to have the weight of them all the time.  If I am at home, though, I'm usually reading a physical book.

I've always really enjoyed the salads at Wendy's.  Their summer-y ones with fruit are always pretty amazing.  A lot of the other ones often have corn or something else that I can't eat (we're grain-free), but usually one of the fruit-and-veggie salads work well for me.  The lettuce usually looks really good at Wendy's compared to other fast food salads I've had, too.  More of the nice green lettuce and less of the iceberg.  I don't eat fast food very often, but when I do, it is usually Wendy's.  They don't look at me like I have 3 heads if I order a burger w/no bun, they are a lot more used to accommodating gluten-free folks there, it seems.  At least down here in GA.  We had to stop at a BK the other day and it took me like 10 minutes to order the tendergrill with no bun.  *facepalm*

English was always my favorite, by far.  Then next would probably be Social Studies -- which is ironic, because these days finding out about world events is just heartbreaking.  But, I have a real love of other cultures, and I think that's what drew me to it.

Off-Topic / Re: help with eczema?
« on: August 16, 2014, 09:18:56 am »Message ID: 909466
I have light eczema on my face and ears. Anyone have good solutions for this? It can't wear make up or earrings bc of this and feel self conscious.

I have very bad eczema all over, because mine is triggered by allergies ( I have 60+) But my dermatologist said to put on Hydrocortisone anti itch cream and then Eucerin (sp? it's Vaseline based) lotion a few times a day especially after showering and such. Hope it helps I know how bad it sucks and how bad it can make you feel!! :-\

If you have "eczema" and that many allergies, have you been tested for Celiac Disease? 20% of Celiac patients manifest with "dermatitis herpetiformis," a rash that is frequently misdiagnosed as eczema but is unique to Celiac Disease.  Another 20% of DH-rash bearing Celiacs have NO digestive symptoms whatsoever.  Also, an excessively high amount of food allergies is a major indicator of an autoimmune condition, like Celiac.  You should talk to an immunologist, or go on a gluten free trial of around 3 months (it takes 90 days to get all remaining traces of gluten related symptoms out of your diet).  You might find relief that is better than what the creams can do.  ALSO, if you're not allergic to coconut, you might try virgin cocnut oil on the outbreaks, it has been very effective for my son (who had a horrible DH rash, now that we're on the GAPS diet for his Celiac he only breaks out when the nearby wheat crops are in pollen...sheesh).  It works well on both DH rashes AND eczema.

Thanks for the info. I have not been tested for Celiacs and it wouldn't surprise me if I had it given all the immune problems I have. I do see an immunologist and have had allergy testing, etc. It looks like I have several skin conditions including eczema, psoriasis, seborrhea, and puritis, along with specific allergens, so the skin stuff is getting complicated. Lots of creams to try and products to stay away from. It is quite overwhelming.

Yikes!  That definitely does sound overwhelming!  I know a lot of folks (my own family included) who have found quite a bit of help through healing dietary protocols.  They can be restrictive and, because of that, intense, but for many the drastic improvements make it worthwhile.  There are a lot of different diets for autoimmune conditions, and I know a few people for each one, so I can attest to the helpfulness of them.  They are:
The GAPS Diet (Gut And Psychology/Physiology Syndrome) - That is the diet my family is on
The Specific Carbohydrate Diet (or SCD Diet)
The Paleo Diet (Specifically the "Autoimmune Protocol," Which differs from the normal paleo diet)
The Maker's Diet

Books for each of them include Gut And Psychology Syndrome (Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride), Breaking the Vicious Cycle (Elaine Gottschall), The Maker's Diet (Jordan Rubin).

For Paleo for Autoimmune, you can find things all over the internet but there are so many books I don't have one specific title for you.

The general measurement is "half the number of your body weight(pounds) in ounces of water a day."  So, I weigh 135 lbs.  135 divided by 2 is 67.5, or just over a half gallon.  So I should drink around a half gallon a day.  Someone who weighs 100 lbs should drink less.  Someone who weighs 200 lbs should drink more.

You DO have to pee all the time when you start drinking more water, but in my experience, this stopped after a week or so.  Your body finds a new normal, and you don't have to run to the bathroom all day long.

I will probably remember him most for Dead Poets Society, Good Will Hunting, Mrs. Doubtfire, and Patch Adams.

It is often true that people who bring joy to others are often themselves struggling against darkness/depression.  Everybody I know who is an "encourager" feels discouraged a lot of the time.  Where are strongest gifting lies, that is where we will be under the greatest attack.

If you know anyone with a gift for bringing joy to others, take it upon yourself to be the one that brings joy to them. You don't have to ask if they need it, ten to one they do.

Off-Topic / Re: Writing Songs
« on: August 12, 2014, 08:20:32 pm »Message ID: 908544
I have only actually sat down to write a song once or twice, and had it turn out to be any good.  For me, the best songs come when I am doing other things (doing dishes, taking a shower, cleaning up around the house, working outdoors), and it starts with a little snippet of a tune, but the words and music almost come at the same time.  I have been asked to write lyric for someone else's melody, and to come up with a tune for someone's lyric, and neither one works well for me.  They have to show up together, most of the time.

I kind of love how everybody's process is a little bit different.  I think the process is a part of the art, and everybody's art is different.  And I agree w/the previous poster.  There are sings, songwriters, and singer/songwriters.  Whichever one you are, do it with everything you have, and no one can (reasonably) ask any more of you.  Just be you :)
