Someone told me that it states it the Bible that it is okay to hit your wife?

I have yet to find this verse!!!!  Why would some one even do that? How much of spousal abuse really exists now-a-days?

I have looked and find anything of the sort in reference to hitting a spouse.  Granted, God can be very destructive with the wiping out of man with the exception of Noah and his family, but I don't see God glorifying spousal abuse for His purposes.

Nowhere in The Bible does it state that it is okay to hit your wife.

God would never tell someone it is ok to abuse your spouse .... it does say that you should love your wife as God loves the church (which is all of the believers).

Ephesians 5:25
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her. (NIV)   

and God has told us to LOVE:

Okay, I do internet Bible Studies and have been through the Bible front to back and it does never say this, this person is putting their words in. Actually it says for the husband to treat the wife with love and respect, Go to 1 Corinthians, John, there are so many definition in the Bible of what a husband and wife shoud be unto each other, not this. no way, never.

No, but the bible does give many reasons for why it's okay to kill your wife. Check out a few of the more crazier strictures in the Old Testament here. Remember that the bible doesn't make one Christian, but rather conducting yourselves as Jesus would have wanted you to.

The bible was translated and written by wrinkled up old men who felt that they needed to back up their own beliefs of men being superior, women supposed to obey, blah, blah. I've read it a time or two and never seen anything referencing outright hitting of either spouse though.

I don't want to go too deep into this topic but I'll give my two cent's...The bible has been F--kin distorted by man, plan and simple. For example I read that one of the holy men I forget who he was, slept with a prostitute but the bible preaches against prostitution. There's a whole lot of contradictory stories in the bible, not to mention slavery, stoning of the women for cheating and not the man, all kind's of crazy stuff. The bible was used for political reasons and I believe that some of the passages were written in later times. Believe it or not the bible is a conglomeration of myths from around the world and political rhetoric. Now I'm not saying that those myths were just some mumbo jumbo, they were stories to explain the creation of life. I do believe in God, but not the one of the bible.

Many people think the Bible is quite anti-feminist, so someone could easily spread a rumor that it says it's ok to hit your wife. But the Bible tells us to love our wives.  It does state that they should be submissive, but that does not by any means say to hit them.

Yeah, hitting your wife is frowned upon in the bible. Killing her, on the other hand-- well, that just depends on how far she crosses the line.
