My new blog
« on: November 13, 2010, 03:50:32 am »
I'm always looking for a place to blog and discuss things on my mind or that of my friends.  What better place than here!

A little about myself, I'm 56 years old, currently unemployed and trying to stay afloat in today's economy.  I always was very frugal minded and have been participating in and honing my skills in voluntary simplicity for many years.

I'm planning on going back to school as of February for Medical Assistant in hopes that a job in the medical field will be easier to find that one in IT where I used to work.

I knit, crochet, work on genealogy, raise three fur babies and spend a lot of time on the computer playing games or chatting with friends on social networks.

I'm also looking for a new friend or new project to keep me busy.

Tell me a little about yourself and let's chat.

I'm 72 years old, currently unemployed and plan to keep it that way. I'm hardly frugal, I love spending money and having fun, so that's why I spend time making money on the computer each day and pump up my fun money fund.

I'm not planning on going back to school, but who knows when I might change my mind? I like to take my wife traveling around North America and we make several trips a year. This year we had a week on a houseboat in Key Largo, a week at the beach, a week in North Carolina and we already have reservations for a week at Yellowstone next summer. That's why I keep clicking.

I also sing in Barbershop Quartets and play a little bluegrass guitar with my boys.

I am a 39 yr old single mom. I am employed but only part-time. I am a certified medical assistant, ekg tech, plebotomist - trying to get a job in a hospital. Took a course for dialysis tech & it was great!  Would luv to go back to school for nursing. Hobbies - crochet, read, spend time with my daughter & family, make free $ on ptc/ptd sites.

Anyone that crochets blankets or baby hats, the NICU's at the hospitals would love to have them for the babies. Or even if they are made out of material. Blankets and hats are used a lot there. Make them and drop them off, I know they will be appreciated.

I am a working mom who had a premature infant. I also have a 7 year old stepson.

I am 54 and retired and plan to keep it that way. I love spending money and having fun, so that's why I spend time making money on the computer each day.

I'm not planning on going back to school, but some times I like to think about going back to earn my Doctorate Degree in Criminal Justice.  I like working with kids who are fatherless.

We try to take several fun trips a years. This year we have been to Arizona, Virginia Beach, and many places in North Carolina.  We are going to the Outer Banks in NC for Thanksgiving and then to Boone, NC to ski during Christmass.  Next summer, we are on our way to San Antonio, TX.

I'm here cliking just to have a little fun and keep myself busy.

It's fun hearing from everyone and a little bit about other people.  The last couple of days I've been listing books and CD's on Amazon and selling a few here and there.  I used to have access to both media types in the employee store where I worked so I had quite a few saved.  I ripped all of my CD's on to my computer and I'm selling the actual music and I'm trying to downsize so I'm selling all of the books except for reference books that I might need, such as my crochet and knit books.  I have only kept a few cookbooks as I find that I turn to the internet for new recipes more these days.

Everyone is vacationing in North Carolina! I guess I am really lucky to live here!

I'm a 28 year-old wife of a U.S. Marine. I choose to work from home so I can keep the house neat and have meals ready for him. We'll be celebrating our first wedding anniversary on December 2. We don't have any kids as of yet. We decided to wait until after he's done with the Marine Corps. We plan on moving back to Nebraska (or somewhere close by) so we can be closer to our families.

I've went to college for Psychology, Mass Media, and Legal Studies--none of which held my attention. I'm sure I'll go back someday. It's never too late.

It seems like my hobbies have faded away as I've gotten older. I do love to write short stories and poetry, play tennis, sing, and visit educational sites like museums.

Hi.  I'm 52 years old and have been off work for over a year due to my my problem.  I got married last year and thought I would be able to stay home and make a little money online but if things don't change soon I am going to have to go look for a part time job.

Sorry to hear that tigerlilly.  There are some work at home jobs you could check into.  Alpine Access is one.  Go to Kim Komandos website and search for work at home.  It will bring up a link.  I for one know that Alpine Access is for real.  I have a friend that works for them and I was actually hired by them at one time but fell inactive in their rosters because I couldn't commit to more than 20 hours of week at that time.  Long story.  Good luck though and if you need more information feel free to ask.

I can understand people working for the extra "pin money" but I get irritated by people that say stuff like...I just work to stay busy or out of trouble.  If you are retired and don't need the extra money but want to stay busy...volunteer!  Teach a kid to read, help out at the local hospital, read to a blind person, visit a lonely person, pitch in at a soup kitchen OR donate the money you earn to a charitable organization!

I just love FreeCycle!  I was able to get rid of a box of things I no longer use or wanted and the people were going to use these items in a rummage sale for the local boyscouts to earn money.  I may not donate to too many things with cash but this is one way I can help local organizations and get rid of the clutter.

I babysat my BF's grand-daughter today.  She is 3 and she decided to paint one of her stuffed animals with yogurt.  That was a fun cleanup.  Where do kids come up with this stuff.  I'm think a paint set would be in order for Christmas.  She obviously has a creative flare wanting to develop.

:cat:  I'm married, have 3 grown children, and 2 precious small granddaughters.  I teach Elementary Music part-time.  Because of my asthma issue and tests out-of-town, I can't work full-time right now.  I am very thankful for my job.
We have 3 cats and 1 dog (1 cat is mine - her picture is the one you see.)  I play the guitar, a little piano, sing (although on temporary break until new meds kick in), cross-stitch, read, and try to earn a little extra by joining sites like FC (super site!)  My hubby and I just love being Nana and Papa!!
I like your stuffed animals/yogurt episode! :)

Hi Jscrib.  Yes aren't kids fun?  I'm sorry to hear about your health problems but you sound like you're happy and that's what is important.  I'm making a bit of money on here but the surveys that I get sent don't seem to fit me.  I get so far through them and they tell me I don't qualify.  I won't give my home phone number out either so that is another area where I fall through the cracks.  I've tried doing the ones where you find information about businesses via a url but usually something goes wrong...on their end...so I end up wasting my time.  About all I do is the daily stuff and post on the forum.  At least I'm earning some pocket change and meeting new friends.  After all if you are walking down the street and you see a dime and a nickle you stop and pick it up don't you?

:cat:  Yes, I pick up any change I see.  I've been surprised how much money comes from picking up and saving change!!!
I agree with you - many times the surveys take you so far, just to tell you that you don't qualify. I've thought that I've made it through a survey pretty far, then I'm told that. It's frustrating.  But there are many that do go through, especially if you're consistent with doing the same sites over daily. I've joined some survey sites outside of FC that are pretty dependable, as long as I have the "want-to" and the time to give to them.  Sometimes I'm just surveyed out!!!  Fusion Cash is my favorite!!  ;)
