How are you being Green?
« on: January 29, 2011, 06:16:23 pm »
Curious! :peace:

I cloth diaper, and use cloth wipes. :)
Try to reuse almost any cloth and make good with the old :)
Reuse plastic bags as many times as I can until they can't be used. (meaning for groceries and holding things not icky garbage and food lol)

Grind up egg shells in fine powder for calcium supplementation.  Use only organic free range (no antibiotics or steroids)

You can use a coffee grinder.  Can put the powder in your recipes, in vegetarian capsules, mixed with pet's food, put in garden to enrich the soil, etc...

Eggshells present healthy, balanced calcium due to trace amounts of other minerals contained in it. Eggshell calcium is probably the best natural source of calcium, and it is easier for your body to digest and absorb. Dutch researchers have reported recently a highly positive effect of eggshell calcium (with added magnesium and vitamin D) on bone mineral density in a scientific study (double blind, placebo-controlled). Laboratory test and measures of bone density were carefully made in these studies. The eggshell supplemented group had measurable increases in bone density in their hip bones, after one year.

How much to take?
One whole medium sized eggshell makes about one teaspoon of powder, which yields about 750 - 800 mgs of elemental* calcium plus other microelements, i.e. magnesium, boron, copper, iron, manganese, molybdenum, sulphur, silicon, zinc, etc. There are 27 elements in total. The composition of an eggshell is very similar to that of our bones and teeth.

How to Make Powdered Eggshells:

1. Wash empty eggshells in warm water until all of the egg white is removed, but do not remove the membrane because it contains important nutrients for the joints which helps arthritis.

2. Lay broken pieces out on paper towels and allow them to air dry thoroughly.

3. Break the eggshells up into small pieces, and grind them to into a fine powder in a food processor, blender, coffee grinder, or a nut mill, or put them in a plastic bag and use a rolling pin to grind them. Please note that some blenders will not grind the eggshell into a fine enough powder. A coffee grinder works the best.

4. Store powdered eggshells in a covered glass jar or container. Keep it in a dry place, like the kitchen cupboard.

Dissolve eggshell pieces or powder in lemon juice to consume by teaspoon daily.

Another recipe is used with red clover/nettle/eggshells.

1 qt Apple cider vinegar

-----------ONE OF MORE OF THE FOLLOWING---------------
Yellow dock leaf/root
Dandelion leaf/root
Plantain leaf
Nettle leaf
Raspberry leaf/cane/berry
Mugwort leaf
Comfrey leaf/flower stalk
Red clover blossoms
Clean eggshells

VINEGAR HAS THE AMAZING ABILITY TO DISSOLVE CALCIUM (AND OTHER MINERALS) AND HOLD IT IN SOLUTION, READY FOR YOUR INGESTION AND ASSIMILATION. A TABLESPOON OF THIS VINEGAR WILL SUPPLY ABOUT 150-200 MG CALCIUM. TAKEN BEFORE OR WITH YOUR MEALS, THIS VINEGAR INCREASES THE DIGESTIBILITY OF THE MINERALS IN YOUR ENTIRE MEAL.

Completely fill a quart jar with one or more of these calcium-rich herbs. Use only fresh plant material.
Pour apple cider vinegar over the herbs until the jar is full. Cover with a plastic lid (or place plastic wrap over the jar before adding a metal lid) and let sit for six weeks.

Use this calcium-rich vinegar as a refreshing drink before meals by mixing a tablespoon in up to a cup of water. For the hardy, and those in need of iron, add a tablespoon of molasses. (Adds 150 mg more calcium too).

Also great added to soups and bean dishes, and as a salad dressing.

I reuse plastic bags, and when I get too many I take them to the recycle bins for them at the grocery stores. I also recycle clothes by donating and shopping at Goodwill. Plus I've been using more "green" cleaning products. I was skeptical, but they really work great!

i dont make too much of an effort to do it, but I do recycle all the obvious things like paper, bottles, cans, etc. the only extra thing ive done is to replace all my light bulbs with those cool looking energy efficient ones.

I drive a big truck, keep all my lights on, run my AC 24/7, shower 5 times a day and burn all my junk.
And if it turns out that it wasn't junk and I needed it, I just buy something new.

While I don't actually do all this, my point is even if all of mankind did do these things, it wouldn't do much of anything to the environment.

The whole green revolution is all bunk made up by business majors.

I put all paper, plastic, metal recycleables in the recycling container for pick up.  I also put yard waste in the green waste container for pick up too.

I'm not... it's a hoax. Most of the time recycling uses more energy than the actual creation especially when it comes to aluminum.
It's been turned into a religion this whole going green crap.
