How do I introduce a 2yr old dog to our new puppy, first couple of days was ok, now there is alot of growling, not sure about this the older one is 2yrs old chchuchwa (taco bell dog) and spoiled rotten, the new puppy is a pit terrier a female as mellow as can be.

Maybe keep them seperately, get the scent of the new pup on a stuffed animal or something and put it with the old dog for a few days. That's what we were told to do before bringing our pup home from the humane society but since you already introduced them not too sure it will work, worth a shot thou!

I'm not sure if I could help or not but, I can tell you a story about my puppy dachshund and my neighbor's dachshund. I have a male dachshund which is nearly 6 months old now. He was 2 months old when I brought him home back in April and I introduced him to my neighbor's female dachshund which is a year and a half old. She didn't like him at 1st because he was in her territory and he was playing with her toys. I kept bringing my puppy over until they get use to each other. We separated them whenever they growl at each other or get in a fight.  Now, they are like mother and son. I believe my neighbor's dachshund didn't like mine at 1st because she may think that she won't get anymore attention. She may also was trying to establish who is the boss between her and my dachshund. She already won that battle with my puppy in the 1st few days lol.

Good luck with that! I know from my personal experience that my "old dog" didn't take to the new puppy too well. She is also 12, and i am trying to prepare my kids for what WILL eventually happen, but the old dog wants NOTHING to do with the puppy. She annoys her actually! But, I think with your other dog only being 2, they will get along great and just want to play! Good luck!!!

You have to let them sniff and maybe even nip alittle they need to show each others domiance. That is normal. I have one of the meanest dogs in the world she dont like anyone. Brought a baby beagle home she carried her in her mouth for a while. then threw her and now she is her baby. So they will be fine, dont yell at the other dog too much stay back and let nature takes it course.

hold both of them in your arms and show him/her to be gentle and that the puppy is ok

I had a similar issue.  Ive got a 10 year old shepherd mix that is very mellow and a 6 month old jack russell mix that is very dominant and runs roughshod over the shepherd. I basically make sure our shepherd gets the preferential treatment.  The shepherd gets fed first, her stuff is hers and if the jack russell attacks her, which used to happen often, I spray the jack russell with a vinegar/water mix.   Its not strong enough to really hurt, but it gets her attention.

Its helped, they get along better now.  Not pals, but they tolerate eachother.

well u know dogs are territorial and they want the house to themselves and not an intruder(as the dog would think of the puppy). it knows its a puppy and this is why it wont hurt her but she doesnt want her there but will get used to her after a while.
