I was just reading online that the AAP has now ruled that children under the age of 2 who watch ANY tv at all are going to lack the language skills needed to function in society. I have to disagree. My daughter has been exposed to the media from the time she was tiny and she is advanced. I personally feel that it is more of the environment that a child is in and how their parents interact with them than weather or not they are exposed to any form of media.

I think that it's perfectly alright for a two year old child to watch tv, because it's not only entertaining, but educational as well, but the parents should not let them watch just any program or channel on tv though!

I DON'T BELIEVE CHILDREN BELOW THE AGE OF TWO WILL HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH LANGUAGE. HEARING THE SPOKEN  WORD IS ACTUALLY BENEFICIAL IN MY OPINION.

It all depends on what they watch...nothing that's not going to aid in their development.

It is ok for a two year old to watch TV.  My children did and I let them watch educational and cartons and they are well rounded children. So I think it is what your children watch.

I think a good many of these so-called studies are a way of people making money getting grants to do studies.  I don't believe it hurts little kids to watch television.

It looks to me like watching the right programs at an early age would only enhance a child's language skills.  My kids grew up on Sesame Street, and I thought they were lucky to have it!

I don't see a problem with that as long as it's not murder type shows. There are a lot of good children's shows that even a child under the age of two could enjoy. Also they may learn a lot from them.

I dont know about them watching tv so young because the first couple of years of life is when they are learning the most

I agree with most everyone here that Children actually benefit from watching tv especially if it is monitored and appropriate. I'm a preschool teacher and i know for a fact that some of the dvds we watch have actually taught kids different animals and colors etc.

This is interesting because there is this school I think in california that doesn't allow its students to watch TV or use cellphones at all, even when they are home. I think that is a mistake, because while people can easily get overwhelmed by electronic media, completely cutting it off I find can be just as bad. As far as young children watching TV are concerned, as long as its not all day long, age appropriate and at least sometimes educational, I believe its fine. It can even be worked into an educational experience, parents can see what their kids learned from the program and talk about it or play with the characters later, giving their learning a whole new dimension.
