I think that one should go unless the thanksgiving dinner is about all you can eat.
But in terms of a family gathering yeah sure, also do you eat for others or for yourself.

Simple truth though.
One can diet and still eat, dieting is about controlled eating which is beneficial if you stay away from
not all but too much starch. Which leaves room for one to have a full plate or even seconds,
Grab some white meats, vegetables, beans, a little cranberry sauce, as little stuffing depending on what it's made with,
a scoop of ice cream to go with that "small" piece of pie. Some fruit juice and water
           and that'll  leave everyone else questioning who's actually on a diet.

Be sure to do a covered but loud burp afterwards, just to silence the naysayers. lol
