How bizarre that they closed your account.  There are so many scammers out there.  It's just awful!

I have received a few checks like that and immediately put them through the shredder.  If you didn't earn the check then a light bulb should go off in your head telling you that it was a scam.  Scammers are always looking for gullible and vunerable people and because they think they've won something and getting it for free their comons sense goes on vacation and so does logic telling that that something is definitely wrong.

Its really so bad what they did. Its totally unfair. You should visit to the bank and clarify the things with them. May be you get solution of you problem. Good luck...

Well,to make this long story short,I recieved a work from home letter in the mail to be a "Mystery Shopper". Well, the check that they sent me was bogus, which I didn't know. I had already deposited the check and now even though I didn't spend any of the money,"Bank of America" closed my account. I think this is so messed up,seeming I didn't know and I didn't spend any money. So,no one lost out on money. Do you guy's think that this is right what they did? If you think so or don't,I would love hearing from you. I don't mind taking criticism. Thanks

I have gotten a lot of scam emails, but I've never actually gotten bogus checks in the mail. I certainly wouldn't cash one though. The best thing to do is go right to the police station with it. there is a big investigation going on now to crack down on check fraud, and the cops will know what to do.

i must play devils advocate with this topic. If you get a check in the mail and have done nothing to earn it. That should throw up a red flag. I have gotten the checks in the mail, and have thrown them in the trash. "if it sounds to good to be true, it probably is"

I signed up for mystery shopping, the check came in the mail with a legit address, and phone # within the U.S. I know because I googled them.  It's not like the check just ended up in my mailbox.  The lady from the bank said that someone could have hacked into a legit site to get bank and business info.

People get scammed usually because they are CARELESS. We must be careful with who and what to believe in these days, and be alert that even things that LOOKS trustworthy may not be trustworthy behind that mask.

I have read a few comments about being scammed, that they had "signed up" for mystery shopper. still you wont recieve the mone for just signing up money for nothing is still a very good indication that it is a SCAM.

my mothers neighbor received 4 or 5 of those checks in the same week, cashed them at the bank and then later was arrested for check fraud.    WHY WOULD SOMEONE OR COMPANY YOU DONT KNOW SEND YOU A DOLLAR, LET ALONE THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS?  DONT BE FOOLISH, AND THROW THOSE IN THE TRASH

It's a federal crime to deposit/cash 'bogus' checks, let alone endorse them. Even if you don't spend it.

I recently started a thread about this, as I usually get 1-3 of these "Mystery Shopper" offers and fat checks on a monthly basis. Basically, it's a scam because no legit offer would ask you to send money back.

I would ask myself, if someone needed that money why couldn't they keep that portion of the money in the first place and send me just what I need?

I'm grateful for your post...I've been getting those E-mails too. I've ignored them, but now I will flag them as spam. So thank you for the heads up!!
I like to thank you and everyone else for this information. I had also receive email winning lottery, never put in for it. Letters winning sweetstakes and want money sent to them to get it. Thanks a lot. I will continue to tear these up.

I received 2 checks recently and knew that they were scams. Both wanted me to cash the checks and then send 75% through western union (to mystery shop their service) to some person overseas. They offered to let me keep over $300 to do this.. Of course there is no way anyone would pay that kind of money, especially when you could easily test western union for as little as $15. I did some online research and found many people were scammed by these companies, so I tore up the checks... I figure if it seems to good to be true then it probably is!!

You can find me hanging out on Google :)
