We always had a real tree that we cut ourselves until just recently.  It smelled so good and I really hated the first year that we quit having one, but many a New Year's Eve, I was picking needles out of the carpet.  I grew up with the belief that it was bad luck to leave your tree up past New Year's.  Now we use a beautiful artificial tree and it is sooooo much less trouble!!!

I prefer a real tree because of the smell

Honestly... for me it's about saving as much money as I can and less cleaning up.

If you can afford purchasing a real tree every year (they are very expensive) and sweeping/picking up the leaves/needles throughout the holidays, go for it. But if you want to save money, save yourselves from cleaning up, and just spend money once, buy an artificial tree.

I pefer fake trees.  Real trees require too much work plus the needles get all over the floor.

I could not agree more. I do like the "pine smell" but real trees are a lot of work. We are now on our 3rd artificial tree.

We had neither this Christmas.  A real tree feels more homey, but at the same time is not the best for the environment.  However, you could say the same thing for a fake tree since companies are raking in money from this commercialized holiday.  If I had kids I would have went with a real Christmas tree.  A lot more work to clean up after, but worth it imo.

When I put one up, it's a fake tree. I've worked the past few christmases  so I don't bother decorating anymore.
