Help me understand "IP Address"
« on: April 22, 2009, 11:41:12 am »
After just posting in the mac or pc topic, it made me wonder about my ip address. if that is how they make sure there aren't 2 accounts...what happens if i change to a new computer and attempt to do offers? do i need to do anything? will everything still work as far as doing offers and getting them credited? this is something i know absolutely nothing about so, all of your input will be so greatly appreciated - Thanks.

Well basic knowledge, IP is Internet Protocol. The admins can know where your are based on it. If u commit any crime online, such as spreading viruses, FPI can find u. :D lousy answer! Believe if u think its true!  :bs:

Believe what??? if i think its true?
Well, no - of course i'm not out to commit a crime...and i know what "IP" stands for, i just don't understand if thats how they know its me when it's time to credit me???
anyone else?
This was a serious question posted by someone who just wants to make sure that i can still log on from a new computer and complete offers...
If i truly knew anything about the subject, i wouldn't be asking.

We suggest using just one computer for FusionCash, but we usually don't have a problem with it if you use more than one.  For many people, their IP address changes each time they connect to the internet - or weekly, monthly, etc.  You'll notice that we don't specifically reference "IP addresses" in the Terms of Service, and that's because we can't reasonably expect everyone to stick to a single address.

The issue is when many people in the same location (office, school, etc) all use FusionCash, because then it's difficult for us to tell if the accounts are real or fake.

We use your FusionCash user ID (you can see it in your 'account info' page) to track and credit your offers - not your IP address - so it's not a problem in terms of crediting for you to change IPs.

And as for the FBI business -- your IP address does reveal your country, state, and with something like 95% certainty - your city.  You can't really get more detailed than that.  However, your internet service provider does have your address, so if they are served with a warrant or subpoena they will disclose your name, address, telephone, etc.  But it's pretty tough to get a subpoena and most ISPs don't like giving out that information.  The FBI could probably look up that information pretty easily, though.
