Christmas Trees
« on: December 03, 2012, 05:41:20 pm »
I have decided to get a live Christmas tree this year. One that is still growing in a pot. My husband is dead against it (he says that's not how it's done in the US), but I cannot bear to see those sad trees lying in the gutters after Christmas. I found a few smallish trees at Safeway and my idea is to use the same tree (if I don't kill it off in the interim) year after year and see it get bigger each year. The people selling Christmas trees think I'm nuts too!!!

That sounds like a good idea to me. After the Holidays you can plant it in the yard an decorate it the coming years. I wonder if it would shed less needles if it is still alive?

he says that's not how it's done in the US?

...there's no rules, guidelines, or christmas tree bible
telling you how you HAVE to do something! all traditions
had to start somewhere. i think it's a cool idea to start
your own tradition, and your idea sounds very economical,
nature friendly, and multi-functional.

go for it!

We did that a lot when I was growing up and ended up lining the drive with Christmas trees, It was beautiful.

You are making a new tradition for your family.  That's what Christmas is all about.

Honestly, I had never heard of raising a Christmas tree in a pot inside.  It sounds really neat but I'm wondering how much it will grow over a year.   Where do you go to get one like that?  Does being in a pot stunt it's growth like a bonzai?

What is the significance of the Christmas tree? Does it relate to the true meaning of Christmas which is the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ.
