Hair donations for children with cancer
« on: February 01, 2013, 10:27:02 am »
Have you donated your hair for children with cancer?  My hair has always been long, to my waist, and although my family doesn't want me to cut it, I am seriously thinking about cutting 10" off to donate to children with cancer.  Has anyone out there done this or thinking about it?  Please let me know.  Thank you

My daughter did this she had really long hair. think there are many people who could benefit kids and adults. Might look into if you donate can you get your hair styled for free.

I think donating hair to children or adults with cancer is an excellent idea.  Only wish I had the hair to donate. :D :D :D

I donate every few years to locks of love.  Double check the length though.  I usually donate 12" for children, or 10" for adults.   I donate it when l see that a salon is going to have a day of donations now.   I go in and let them cut off what they need, and leave it with them.  The first time I did it, I had to mail it in myself.   They may not require the 12 inches for children anymore, but when I first started, that was the minimum.

It takes a little bit of time to get used to the shorter hair, but it grows back, and you are helping a child that's been dealt a raw deal.  Remember to use less shampoo, or you will be in the shower rinsing for a long time.  :)

If I had more hair I would donate it to these children.  My hair is short.  I know a child with cancer and has lost his hair.  Just wish there was something I could do.  I pray for him alot.  I hope everyone has a good Sunday and may God bless each of you and keep you safe.  Stay warm.

I have never heard of them doing this but I kind of like it.  It is way to donate and make them feel better without asking for our money.  We just can't give to every charity.  If I gave one dollar to each charity then I would go bankrupt.

I tend to keep my hair short.  But my daughter has long blonde hair and has donated a couple of times and she says she is happy that a child will benefit from her hair.

I wasn't aware of this program as an option.  My hair's pretty short so I don't think I can help... but if I can, I will.  I'll have to check it out...

I have donated a couple of times to Locks for Love. My daughter is hoping to do the same when her hair is long enough to.

I had a coworker that use to grow his hair for about 6 month or so and he would do it so that he could donate to the children that had cancer. This might be the same cause you are looking in to. I though it was a great idea good luck.

Since I first heard about this worthwhile project, my hair has not been long enough to donate.  I understand the length you donate has to be at least 10 inches before they will accept it.  A friend of mine had beautiful long blonde hair and had it cut for this purpose.  I wish there was some way they could use the shorter snippings that occur with a "normal" routine haircut.
