WELFARE PROPOSAL .......
« on: April 05, 2013, 07:24:20 am »
DRUG TESTING TO RECEIVE BENEFITS.....DO ANYONE BELIEVE THIS VIOLATES A PERSONS RIGHTS ?
I WOULD HAVE TO SAY THAT IT SEEMS A LITTLE OUT OF LINE, IN MY OPINION, BUT IT DOES SEPARATE THOSE WHO ARE REALLY WILLING TO GO THE EXTRA MILE TO RECEIVE AND/OR KEEP THEIR BENEFITS .I WOULD HAVE TO ASK ,"WHAT ABOUT THE CHILDREN" .....ITS WELL KNOW THAT ALL BENEFITS AREN'T BEING USED PROPERLY.
IS THIS PERMANENT LOSS OR TEMPORARY MEANING GET YOURSELF TOGETHER. IN THE STATE OF TEXAS THE LAW DENIES FOODSTAMPS TO ANYONE WHO HAS EVER HAD A DRUG CHARGE WITHOUT SAYING IF THE INDIVIDUAL HAS CHANGED IN ANYWAY. I WONDER IF THAT WOULD CHANGE THOUGH IF ALL APPLICANTS WERE DRUG TESTED.
OPENING DOORS TO THOSE WHO USE AND HAVE NEVER BEEN CAUGHT PUTTING THEM IN THE BOX WITH THOSE WHO DID GET CAUGHT....WHEN DOES IT END? QUESTIONS?
THIS IS TO REDUCE THE GROWTH OF SOCIAL SECURITY AND OTHER BENEFITS ,AROUND THE WORLD.....

Not everyone on assistance is using drugs. Not saying that's what ur saying but its so annoying to me. My husband worked in the coal mine and myself at the hospital. Both being layed off after having a baby we went to assistance. Its a big change. You hardly get anything. Its alot more complicated to receive help there days now to. You cant just walk in there and get a check. To receive ur 300 a month(how u can live on that i don't know) you have to volunteer 160 hours. So you do the math. Be better off to work at mcds.

I have never used drugs in my life.  There are some that need drug testing, and they should have had it long ago. ???

It is my belief that if someone has access to expensive illegal substances that they have the ability to make money. Poor people can't afford drugs. If someone is addicted I could see a situation where they attend addiction meeting and counseling in exchange for receiving welfare benefits as well as drug testing to make sure they stay clean while in the program. Otherwise, I think drug testing should be a minimum requirement.

I think if you are inviting the government into your life by receiving benefits from them, you should have to play by their rules.  I don't think that is a violation of the right to privacy to have to take a drug test in order to receive benefits.

Very well stated!  If you have the cash on hand to be able to support the habit and are using your food stamps at the store then, yes, indeed there is a problem with that.

But...there are many ways to look at this...

Ok, we can all say that it is right or wrong as posed in this question, but how about something as simple as cigarette smokers?  Is that daily habit the same thing?  Is it okay to spend your cash on a two pack a day habit and crack or weed is not okay? (if using your food stamps at the grocery store).

Employers require drug testing to get a job - why should it be any different to qualify for government assistance?  If you abuse drugs or other illegal substances, you should not be supplemented by government funds.  If you can afford drugs, you can afford food.

drug testing is not fair even though people should not do drugs at all,  but there are alot of people that count on this, just like the wealth depend on there money.  God put everything on this planet for us to share and not to judge one another.

Of course it is fair. If someone is going to give you something, they have right to set the rules.
