I have tried everything as well with no success. I have been nocturnal all of my life. reading works sometimes...  if that doesn't work a midnite/early morning snack usually does the trick

Read something that actually bores you. You can also watch Cspan, it is a real snooze fest. if that doesn't work, listen to some ambient audio like a CD of ocean waves.

There is not much you can do when you cannot sleep. I will stay away from pills thats for sure. Maybe try going for a walk and try to tire yourself out.

I usually play card games on the computer like solitare.  For some reason that makes me extremely sleepy.

I have the opposite problem.  If I don't get around 9 hours straight sleep I'm no good.  And Lucky for me I have no problem falling nor staying asleep.  My husband however can run for more than 24 hours at a time on nothing more than 4 hours of sleep.  It drives me crazy because sometimes he thinks because he's up I should be up too.  When he can't sleep it's usually because he's starting to get sick...when he can't breath through his nose cause of allergies he get's wigged out and goes for walks.  At all hours of the night.  He stays up online and reads...watches utube...till he passes out.

I have read that eating certain foods before bedtime will help promote a good night's sleep.  The two that come to mind are peanut butter and an apple (not necessarily together, although that might be a good option).

I often have problems sleeping and will watch tv or Netflix. Lately, though Ive been reading on my iPad on the Kindle app. Right now im reading The Black Prism by Brent Weeks right now, its pretty good! It sort of reminds me of a mixture of The Giver and The Hunger Games.

If I'm not tired there's no point in me even trying to go to sleep.  So I work on various projects until I get sleepy. And sip some tea and maybe play spider solitaire to get sleepy.  My ideal sleep time is 6 hours - Any more and I feel too logey; 4 or 5 will be good for a few days then I have to catch up. On the other hand my husband goes in before 11 and is out for 8 or 9 hours. He always says - don't stay  up too late and I say don't worry I'll be in soon. Now he knows better lol.
