Is health insurance really worth the cost?
« on: May 16, 2013, 07:14:30 pm »
This morning I woke up tired and had breakfast this morning. I also took my multivitamin and my vitamin water. As soon as I took this, I felt so much better.  I wasn't planning to do a lot on my day off from work, but I got some things done. Anyway, when I was ready to leave, I checked for mail and what do I get, I get a bill from the Dr. for $220.00 dollars and they expect me to pay this within 14 days. I only work Part time. I have insurance until the end of this month, because I can not afford it anymore after this. So, my question is if you have health insurance and been paying to be covered, then why isn't the insurance paying up on what their suppose to pay. Makes no sense to me. I think it is a joke at this point to have health insurance. PERIOD!!!

Oh I so feel your "insurance" aggravation.  I have medicare and I need what I pay for it for food and necessities each month as it is and then on top of it, get billed 20% on top of that because Doctors charge more than what medicare will pay for whatever procedure or visit.  I feel for you, I am in the same boat.

The problem with health insurance is: You pay...and pay...sometimes you do not even get what you pay for.

I do think that insurance is important, especially if you have to go into the hospital for surgery.  I did last year.  I was only in the hospital for 2 days and my bill was over $10,000 before the insurance settled.

My husband got a bill for a blood test for over 200.00. we've been paying 30.00 a month I don't think they can do anything  as long as you pay something .I'm mad  at health care to I hope the Obama one helps . They can even put you in collections  but not for awhile.

Yes, because if you get really sick or injured and go to the hospital you need it for sure, otherwise you'll have financial problems paying that big hospital bill.

I used to think not so much a need for myself as when my girls were small and even in their teens I always carried insurance but rarely got sick or had need for. So I have been cruising along for the last 5yrs without insurance because I couldn't afford to have  the $ taken from my payck. That was until the last 3yrs I started slowly sliding downhill and last yr I crashed and was in the hospital 4x's and now that I am medically disabled, I would do almost anything to have some kind of insurance, even if it is Medicad. My Rhemutologist charges $300 for intial visit and $170 for follow up visits. You don't even want to know what meds cost. What the Federal Government needs to is place a cap on cost of insurance and pharmacuticals. This is one unhappy :cat:

I only pay for auto insurance. I never pay to have health insurance in my life. Now you see why you don’t need it.

I think I would have a difficult time getting health insurance even if I could afford to pay for it.  Too many preexisting conditions.

I know health insurance is very costly.  I have always had it, even though I complained about the price I still paid.   A few years ago, I had cancer.  My operation was in the thousands, but my chemo was $125,000.00 a session and I had 6 sessions.  Thank God for insurance there was no way I could pay that!

Yes I agree I was looking up information on Health insurance for my son because its suppose to be a law or something, its ridicules The deductible is anywhere from $550 to $5000 than you have to pay co-pays as well and the price to have this medical insurance is between $63.00 to $150.00 crap I don't go to the doctors enough to pay the deductible and than co-pays what do they pay exactly. Its not fare my son can't afford that even though he works full time after rent electric and car payments and insurance there is no money left, where are these young ones going to get more money they would have to get a part time job on top of the full time job there whole life will be spent at work.

If you people think it is expensive now, just wait until ObamaCare kicks in totally on 1/1/14.  It's going to at least double on up to 5 times what it is now.  It will also be the law that you have to have it or you will be fined by the federal government.
Nearly 50% of doctors plan on retiring in the next 3 years so there won't be nearly enough doctors available.  Hospitals plan on limiting the number of Medicare patients they have.  Things are going to get way worse next year.

I think all types of insurance are rip off's I feel if you don't use any kind you should get reimbursed at least 3/4 of the money in a year, Until I got cancer and even than I had no insurance, I couldn't get help from social svcs. cuz I made to much money and it took me 4 yrs. to get disability and by that time I went from stage 2 to stage 4 went thru 2 sessions first session 6 times and the second session 3 times now I am in remission but I got medical bills out the ying yang medicare only pays 80% and I don't get enough money to pay the bills. Thank God for my nice doctors they tell me don't worry about the bills just make sure I come for my appts.
